Our Form and Tommy's Health

Post by chimpster99 »

I'm honestly starting to believe that our poor form over much of the last 12 months may have been linked to Tommy's health issues. Around the middle of last season, I recall Tommy receiving some medical attention on the sidelines - a 'funny turn' as I think one north-stander described it. A while after that, the tide turned on our form and it's been a hard watch at times.

Back in November, Tommy was diagnosed with the two strokes and I'm guessing he has since been on a course of treament to redcue the chances of a recurrence. He's seemed noticably sharper in interviews over the last month or two, and our form is rising again. So I do wonder if, prior to the two strokes, Tommy was struggling with his health for a number of months. As someone who lived for a few years with an undiagnosed heart condition, I know the impact that sort of thing can have on day-to-day life and especially performance at work. It can be debilitating, almost like a form of depression.

I have been quite openly critical of Tommy at times over the last 12 months. He's a bit of maverick manager and can be quite unpredictable - but if he has also been carrying the burden of an undiagnosed condition and then going through treatment, then I think it's fair to cut him some slack. There's a fire in the team now that resembles last season's exploits and boy is it enjoyable to watch. Let's hope Tommy stays in tip-top condition and we can run through the rest ofthe season on this kind of form!

You are right and we must give Tommy all the support possible to ensure that he recovers well now and in the future.

However, as even Tommy has rightly pointed out football is only a game and health must come first.

Definitely happy to cut him some slack now until the end of the season, whatever the remaining games provide us. He has earnt it for sure. 13th in the League and FAT Semi-final would definitely been seen as acceptable back in June when we were reeling from losing Stokes, Tolaj, Glover, Mnoga etc.
