Tommy
Tommy
Recently I have picked up on a thread saying the Club spends everything it earns or to be more accurate the cash flow is balanced, as it comes in ,it is spent. In Shahids interview he confirms this.
Shahid also says that he gave Tommy a small budget increase this season.
At a guess, we received approximately £500 K in player sales, Cordner, Tolaj and Stokes.
The FA Cup run must have produced a further, say £200K.
Since Tommy arrived I guess that gates have gone up in the order of 3/500 say £160 K
Fair to say without Tommy Aldershot may very likely have gone broke and been placed in Administration.
Be very careful what you wish for !

Re: Tommy
I agree Dartmouth and there's too much criticism of Tommy.
Whilst unpopular, I would also say the same message goes for Shahid though.
The fiscal running of the club must be in conjunction with the playing side.
A bit like a Government is always unpopular, most chairman get bashed. After administration last time, we were all keen not to be a yo-yo club of boom and bust. The problem is trying to spend what we earn is not 'sexy' and appears to lack ambition to some fans.
Of course as a fan I would like to see huge investment which catapults us to greater heights, but just as with Manager's- Azeem outers also need to be careful of what they wish for

Re: Tommy
Yes the costs of running Aldershot are very high and it seems that we are "just about managing".And yes a raising of the gate income this season under Tommy Widdrington has been significant.dartmouth wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 8:14 am Recently I have picked up on a thread saying the Club spends everything it earns or to be more accurate the cash flow is balanced, as it comes in ,it is spent. We fans are indeed lucky to have our Club to support.
Re: Tommy
Tommys style of football and his aggressive "go for the win at all costs" is very commendable and likeable. You never hear complaints about a boring style or "setting up not to lose" like we have under previous managers. I would rather spend an afternoon watching us lose 1-3 under TW than draw 0-0 to Dover or Weymouth under Molesley.
Its the way he talks about the fans in interviews and the ridiculous nepotism which are preventing him from becoming one of our most liked managers in recent history. He is creating a chasm in the relationship which will come to head eventually like it did with George Borg. Theo's antics and disciplinary record only add fuel to the fire.

Yup agree
On the pitch we are doing fine at the moment and I’m interested to see how next season goes, with Tommy, but not Theo
Off the pitch, he desperately needs to change/improve his skills
But, again, as has been mentioned lots of times on here, the interviewer (Sam?) doesn’t help things at all

Re: Tommy
As touched upon by Shahid in the last interview and as was confirmed after we had beaten Swindon , at that time any money won in the Cup had not covered the cost of any surgeries required by players up until that time .
This season again a chunk of revenue has had to go on injured players needed hospitalisation .

Re: Tommy
Wouldn't surprise me at all. I think Tommy has brought in huge amounts of revenue to ATFC, but has seen virtually nothing in return and had to plan this seaosn on a relative shoestring. He's an ambitious manager and will almost certainly be on the lookout for a job at a similar level where there is some money to spend and he can build a team that's truly capable of competing at the top end of the table. Southend would be a very natural fit for him, should a vacancy arise, given that he lives there.

Re: Tommy
I have a similar nagging feeling, although it would be a shame as he has the potential to achieve more here.
"Ongoing unspecified health Issues" would be a line they could go with without having to elaborate or be pressured into any follow up questions

Re: Tommy
I've been a fan of Tommy's since he arrived and drove a transformation in fortune when we avoided relegation after he came in when we looked doomed. Last season was one of the most exciting and as well documented, we had exciting football, exceptional players, increased attendances and great performances in the FA Cup. Even this season has had some highs and there is alot to look forward to still, particularly in the FA Trophy. This is against a background of a small budget (compared to many in this league) , serious injuries galore and of course his own health problems. I do agree with others that the post match interviews do him no favours in the manner the questions are posed .
Re: Tommy
I would also worry at the constant ,sometimes , unfounded criticism of Theo. will play a part in Tommy’s decision to stay or leave. He couldn’t have done any better in his 20 mins on Saturday. Yet still the tub thumpers came out in force.
As I finished my last post. Be careful of what you wish. There are many more Moseley and Searles out there than there are Tommys
