Footballer's Mindset
Yesterday's match got me thinking about footballers mindset.
We go a goal up get pegged back then Josh scores and all looks rosy. Here's where the mindset comes in.
Player's thinking this was a home win and relaxed and were weren't expecting Ebbsfleet to score more than one.
On similar topic, Gateshead players last season did really well to go into the playoffs, but ultimately the pressure was off as they know they couldn't go up.
This season it's recently been confirmed their ground will be accepted in the EFL and promotion can be achieved, suddenly they have lost five games in a row.
Thoughts?

It's a good time to play Gateshead
Re: Footballer's Mindset
They scored three great goals other than poor defending on one we can't take away they were great goals scored by them. What worrys me one player comes back and we don't look anywhere near as good as the last two games. Why ?

This has been ongoing for some time. Could be very good for Gateshead with his connections.fredandballou wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 10:04 am The NL Paper reports today that Gateshead look set to be taken over by a consortium led by Victor Anichebe.

What is it about Gateshead that makes them attractive to investors? Poorly supported and will forever be in the massive shadow cast by the Toon.brian bloomfield wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 10:23 amThis has been ongoing for some time. Re: Footballer's Mindset
Actually in the second half we played some good attacking football, definitely better than we did at Maidenhead and probably at Alty too. On another day we could have scored another goal or two and the first half would have been a distant memory.

Re: Footballer's Mindset
But while we were thoroughly dominant second half, I can only remember Cousins making 1 routine save.
A lot of style without substance. Barham certainly isn't firing properly at the moment and around me we all thought Mullins was the answer other than Corbett. Opportune penalty aside, we really didn't look like scoring

Our wall didn’t do its job properly for Moncur’s goal and the defending for their third was absolutely shocking although it was a great finish by Cosgrave.

Re: Footballer's Mindset
Definitely felt like "we're playing well and it's only ebbsfleet" mindset first half.
Barham works hard and in the first half it looked like he'd get some joy over the top (one offside looked like the lino was daydreaming and felt he had to flag but it looked like Jack caught them all) but there's no coherent approach work that's going to create chances for him and hasn't been all season. The whole team seems set up for Barrett and Ryan Jones to do stuff but Barham's just there to pull defenders around and if something falls to him so much the better. Also he isn't one to create his own chances is he? I saw Pearce at York the other week score when it didn't look like he had any space but he got off a neat little shot. Jack never creates his own space and seems to need that extra split second to wind up to shoot too.
Given that we were killing them over the top I would 100% have brought Mullins on as he's good at connecting play.

Not sure where you sit but we were right in line from the east bank and it was an absolute banana shot from the Ebbsfleet player. I'd put it down as a fantastic free kick with wicked bend rather than the wall not doing its job.Sean Chambers wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 1:54 pm

However will reserve final judgement until I've watched the highlights.
Re: Footballer's Mindset
No. We were simply poor defensively though Ebbsfleet were clinical and scored from all 3 chances. Don't believe Dewhurst had another save to make all game.
The simple truth is that we are an inconsistent 5th tier side.

Re: Footballer's Mindset
It was a good free kick but as I mentioned in the matchday thread you need to look at the positioning of our ‘keeper. He left about 2/3rds of his goal to his left wide open. Whether he would have saved the free kick if he’d been more centrally positioned is open to debate but I’m of the view that he’d have given himself much more of a chance of doing so.HertsShot wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 2:14 pmNot sure where you sit but we were right in line from the east bank and it was an absolute banana shot from the Ebbsfleet player. I watch matches from The North Stand (Eastbank end) and yesterday a couple of seconds before the kick was taken I could see just how much space he’d left for the Ebbsfleet player to aim at.

Re: Footballer's Mindset
That may all be true but it wasn't the point I was responding to. The wall was fine, he just went a long way around it. Giving away stupid free kicks is the ultimate cause of it.Birdman wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 2:30 pmIt was a good free kick but as I mentioned in the matchday thread you need to look at the positioning of our ‘keeper.
