Why is it arrogance? Why isn't it just practical? Again, I think both answers are reasonable so I don't mind either way. I have seen in other posts that you don't believe sportsmen should get tired so maybe that's the problem here. They can and do, especially at this stage of the season.Peter macdonald wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 10:34 amCould lose to fylde if maradona or pele we’re playing for us but I’d be more annoyed if we fielded a weaker side and lost which is pure arroganceSilasgoldeen wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 10:02 amCould lose to fylde at full strength. I said earlier we could only be 5 from the drop after being 10 yesterday morning, it’s arrogance in my opinion, if we did beat fylde with a weak side then great but I wouldn’t risk it not even for a biscuit

Woking game shouldn't even be thought about until the final whistle has gone after Tuesday's fylde game.
Should be strongest team available on that pitch on Tuesday trying to get that result to all but secure our survival.
We are not out of the woods yet.
Would rather try get this game won and some winning momentum back into the team before going into Saturdays game.

Mr deen, I appreciate sportsman do get tired but it’s become a weird obsession, I simply can’t accept playing 2 football matches in a week is too much

Well we all seem to agree that survival comes first so in that case it's not a hard decision.

You can't accept it but the sports scientist (and I think we have one) will have evidence on which to base their decisions. They can see how fast and far people are running and that'll tell them what they need to know.Peter macdonald wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 10:53 am Mr deen, I appreciate sportsman do get tired but it’s become a weird obsession, I simply can’t accept playing 2 football matches in a week is too much

Regarding fielding a weakened team on Tuesday.
Wouldn’t it be potentially unfair to the other teams around Fylde struggling for survival?
I wonder how we would have approached the game if it was a must win?
On another note how do I join the stray shots?
I met a nice gentleman from Bolton at the Rochdale game yesterday who said I should join!
My thoughts on the game yesterday- always a great feeling to watch my beloved shots(since 1967 my father first took me to a home game). Our ability to bring the ball out of defence under pressure cost us yesterday.
We looked a little toothless in attack without a real focal point up front until Kwame came on.
We played without real passion but to be honest it was a typical end of season contest and we are probably pretty safe . COYS

Isn’t walking the streets for 5 hours a day 6 days a week not tiring after the work I do indoors first, sorry but playing football twice a week isn’t too much to ask in my opinion despite what the sports scientists tell youSilasgoldeen wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 11:27 amYou can't accept it but the sports scientist (and I think we have one) will have evidence on which to base their decisions. As well as play, the players train and their recovery regime is as important as their physical activity. With all due respect, if your physical performance drops by, say, 5%, will that see an inquisition? If a players performance does, they most certainly will. These guys are top athletes.Peter macdonald wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 11:39 amIsn’t walking the streets for 5 hours a day 6 days a week not tiring after the work I do indoors first, sorry but playing football twice a week isn’t too much to ask in my opinion despite what the sports scientists tell youSilasgoldeen wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 11:27 amYou can't accept it but the sports scientist (and I think we have one) will have evidence on which to base their decisions. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Who can forget Northampton in 2013. So desperate were we to play that our prolific forward ( 4 league goals) came out with his shovel to get the game on so he could play at Middlesbrough. We lost.

Sorry Silas but I feel I have to say you are completely wrong here. It’s not that we COULD lose at full strength, It’s that we are far MORE LIKELY to lose if not at full strength.Silasgoldeen wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 10:02 amCould lose to fylde at full strength. I think Bob things have changed since we played football.Peter macdonald wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 10:53 am Mr deen, I appreciate sportsman do get tired but it’s become a weird obsession, I simply can’t accept playing 2 football matches in a week is too much
The players are more finely tuned and at a higher risk of injuries due to match pace and the need to read quicker.
For instance athletes cannot run flat out for 100m 10 times a week they may run 95% in training practising more on start and pick up.

Fair enough Brian but I’d prefer strongest 11 v fylde though then a win makes survival almost certain in my eyesbrian bloomfield wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 12:57 pmI think Bob things have changed since we played football.Peter macdonald wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 10:53 am Mr deen, I appreciate sportsman do get tired but it’s become a weird obsession, I simply can’t accept playing 2 football matches in a week is too much
