What were the highlights or memories for you from that season?

The ones that stick out for me are...
* The 0-3 victory at Stafford Rangers on a hot bank holiday Monday in August. Beautiful weather and a dominant Shots performance. I recall the urinal trough in the away end that probably wouldn't be allowed at this level these days
* The 1-0 victory over Halifax at home. A last minute winner down the High Street End.
* The 4-0 win over Stevenage at The Rec.
* I remember us losing at home to Northwich Victoria 1-3 in September 2006. They had about 20 fans in the away section of the East Bank and were shushing us after the goals kept going in. lol. Probably one of our worst performances that season.
* Another low point was the 2-0 loss at Woking. You could tell it wasn't going to be our evening before the game even started when we ended up forgetting to take our kit and had to wear their away kit. To make matters worse it was shown live on Sky Sports.
* The FA Cup meetings with Basingstoke Town. The first game at The Rec ended 1-1 and the highlights were given significant time on Match Of The Day that evening. Fortunately we won the replay 3-1 on a midweek.
* Although it wasn't a great result (4-2 loss) I remember we took a great away following to Blackpool in the FA Cup.
* Beating Weymouth 1-0 at home and the farewell to Terry Brown. It was a shame after his first two seasons in the Conference that it went downhill but what a cracking send-off to him.
* The 3-2 win over Exeter City at home. Graham Westley was at the game and watched from the High Street End. There was a lot of talk he was interested in becoming manager at that time and he kept popping up at games as a spectator.

the 4-0 Stevenage game is up there as one of the best performances I've seen. Stevenage barely touched the ball that game.

Wasn’t the reason we had to wear their away kit due to our away shirts being white? The referee decided that there was too much of a colour clash and it was too near to ko time to be able to get back to The Rec and get our 3rd choice kit.
“The benefit of hindsight can be a wonderful thing.”

Let’s start with a question. What could possibly be worse than losing to your local rivals?

Answer - when you are forced to wear their shirts too. In front of the Sky TV cameras. Live.

Well, back in October 2006, it happened to Aldershot Town as they turned up to play Woking at Kingfield without a change of kit.

Why did it all unfold as it did? Well, because the referee deemed the colours of both teams to be too similar, so a spare set had to be found at short notice and it ended up being Cards’ away strip from two years previously.

At least the visitors' mascots were correctly attired.

Shots’ chairman at the time Karl Prentice was so incensed he blamed then Woking manager Glenn Cockerill for the fiasco.

In a subsequent column he wrote for his club’s matchday programme, he boomed: “I was fuming. I asked if they (Woking) would consider using their away kit, under the circumstances, and was told that it was the manager’s decision and that this would not change under any circumstances. Although this was his right, common sense could have prevailed.

“I know that if the ball were on the other foot we would have compromised. Unfortunately, the situation reflects badly, not only on ourselves, but on the League itself, with the game going out live around the world. Thank you Mr Cockerill.”

Speaking to press in response to the claim it was his fault Aldershot were forced to wear Woking shirts, Cockerill, the former Southampton midfielder, countered: “I’m embarrassed for him to be honest. It’s unbelievable that he’s said that and it’s quite sad that he’s blaming me for his club’s inefficiency.

“I think I’m just being used as a scapegoat. I was told that the referee, Graham Horwood was concerned about the matter and that he spoke to Aldershot 48 hours earlier saying that there was the possibility of a colour clash.

“They obviously chose to do nothing about it. That was time enough for them to get something sorted and to be honest, even with just four hours notice, if I had to get a new kit organised for an evening kick-off I could do it. he problem had absolutely nothing to do with our club and we did nothing wrong.”

Terry Brown's Shots were ridiculed for wearing their rivals’ pale blue kit in the 2-0 defeat, with Shots’ sponsors Elliott Baxter (paper merchants) losing out on a lucrative marketing opportunity - while Woking's former backers Colbornes got more than they bargained for.

Adam Miller (for whom we never knew how much we got) was sent off for a nasty elbow. Fortunately, he was playing for Stevenage.
