I think "The Soldiers" was an earlier nickname, back in the 1930's?AFC197273 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 9:30 pm Home of Huntley and Palmer biscuit factory back in the day. The Biscuits was their nickname long before Royals, bit like the Glaziers was Crystal Palace's
nickname before the Eagles etc.
Any others, anyone can think of,weren't Brighton something before the Seagulls.

This one.
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy ****....What a ride!"
Re: Reading troubles
Got one of my late Brothers football book at home from 1968 where Aldershot are only referred to as “The Soldiers.” There was a club crest years ago with a cannon and a cannonball, so just wondering if that is where the name “Shots” was coined? The cannon was before my time watching, but to me the “AFC 1926” football was the crest in the late 1970s.Morrissey's Scorcher wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 10:05 pmI think "The Soldiers" was an earlier nickname, back in the 1930's?AFC197273 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 9:30 pm Home of Huntley and Palmer biscuit factory back in the day. Re: Reading troubles
Yes we were apparently known as The Soldiers. This was verified to me back in the 70's by obviously much older supporters but The Shots was also used at the same time.Morrissey's Scorcher wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 10:05 pmI think "The Soldiers" was an earlier nickname, back in the 1930's?AFC197273 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 9:30 pm Home of Huntley and Palmer biscuit factory back in the day. Re: Reading troubles
The value of the estate could well be greater without a football club. I wonder with his record of liquidating club's was this the intention all along.

Talk is cheap. Football authorities have a depressing record of talking tough and acting like pussy cats.chimpster99 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 9:40 pm Feels like the EFL aren't messing about here. Reasonable chance that they could be in the NL next season.![]()
Re: Reading troubles
Know what you mean about “Pussycats” OB, but after having to get medical treatment last week for some severe scratches from one of our cats abroad, they can be pretty feisty!
