Tommy's Pre-Match Interview

Well worth a watch. Tom is refreshingly honest about the effects of his strokes, and also admits he's got it a bit wrong in recent weeks. A side of him I'd like to see more of in future. I've more respect for him having watched it.

That's a fantastic interview, very honest and forthright.

Classic = "I struggle now to put my hands behind my back, to pull the knives out!" And said in a jocular manner also.

I really don't care for pre or post match interviews like most supporters, but having a monthly update like this interview would benefit the club as a whole immensely.

Maybe injured players so they can feel part of team.

Too late. To grow Aldershot need class and of course money.

Just maybe Rba he was showing a bit of class that he's been hiding under a bushel.

As for money that's an easy one.

Nothing about Hargreaves.

“Neither club have played at Wembley”. Spennymoor won the Vase there in 2013.

“Fans can criticise me with hindsight and I’ll take it on the chin”. Really?!

I think he was referring to Blockbusters not Countdown.

Good interview I thought.

When he said neither club, I took it as Aldershot FC & Aldershot Town FC.

Overall, that's a fine interview. I am genuinely pleased that Tommy has made a good recovery from the stroke (or strokes) and it is not causing him too much of a lifestyle change. I wish him and his family well for the future.

On a football level I am less impressed. He gets as close as he is probably ever going to get to admitting he got things badly wrong with team selection after the Sittingbourne semi-final. Criticism cannot be dismissed as hindsight as many of us were saying at the time that making wholesale changes, "resting" players etc. was a huge mistake. Nor do I buy Tommy's "After Fylde, I knew we weren't going to get relegated" for a moment. Not only did we get too bloody close to relegation, he was already fannying around with team selection for the Fylde game.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I think Tommy’s point is that he’s one man making one decision - if other individuals don’t agree with that decision it doesn’t make them right and him wrong. If TW had picked full strength sides for those games and picked up injuries to key players he’d be getting stick from some fans for not prioritising the final. If we win tomorrow I’m sure he’ll feel fully justified.

Nobby, no, it's NOT damned if you do and damned if you don't with me. Not at all. I know people have criticised Tommy for selecting key players who then get injured BUT NOT ME. Look back at my posts and I have challenged anyone who has said that. Play your best side so as to gain wins, pick up points and build confidence for Wembley. I have said this consistently.

I'm not one of these people who look for every opportunity to criticise. I say what I think is done wrong and praise what I think is done right.

And I don't agree that winning at Wembley justifies taking risks with relegation. I believe Tommy actually reduced our chances of winning at Wembley by cock-eyed team selection and tactics that led to a string of poor losses, inevitably hitting our confidence and at the same time passing up the chance to get the team bedded in for Wembley.

Sittingbourne was the quarter final. Team selection became a massive issue after the Woking semi final especially Woking away. He definitely wasn't referring to Countdown!

Wasn’t referring specifically to you OB - just pointing out that YOUR priority is not necessarily the same as other people’s priority - and not necessarily the right priority. End of the day, it’s Tommy’s job and Tommy’s decision.
