Rob Worrall
Firstly I want to say how much I appreciate the fact we get radio commentaries for the vast majority of games - it's invaluable for stray Shots and also for fans who aren't able to get to every game for a multitude of different reasons. I also can't even begin to imagine how difficult it must be so I certainly have a lot of respect for anyone who does that job. I also want to make clear I think Rob does a good job despite getting a few players names wrong from time to time or missing some moments (that can happen to anyone) as he has a lot of different things he needs to focus on at the same time. He also has a good radio voice (Woking's Ian Nicholson could send a glass eye to sleep
). However the reason for this post is I find it rather annoying he seems to appear to think he is above some other people with his comments. He will usually drop in to commentaries about how he's travelled from Cambridgeshire for games (well done?) like he expects some special praise for doing so and then this evening after the game he invited two 11-year-old boys on air to give their thoughts on the match. It was their first game on their own together to see The Shots. It's important to note he knows their Aunt Becky however I thought he was very patronising towards them. Despite the fact they answered every question asked of them (names and ages, where they watched the game from and their MOTM) and the fact he obviously wasn't listening to their answers as he misheard who they gave their MOTM to he said to end the interview: "Next time boys come ready with your opinions loaded. You can't stand there and have me interview you and you not have any opinions, so we'll brush on that next time alright." I just felt like he needlessly humiliated two young boys for absolutely no reason at all and I just hope the fact he belittled them in front of people who were still tuned in listening doesn't affect them too badly. Very disappointing and unprofessional from Rob.

Yes I agree with you Aldershot. Seems to be a few of them in their own little clique. Won't speak to the rest of us as we are not worthy away from the microphone..Aldershot wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 11:31 pm Firstly I want to say how much I appreciate the fact we get radio commentaries for the vast majority of games - it's invaluable for stray Shots and also for fans who aren't able to get to every game for a multitude of different reasons. Re: Rob Worrall
I agree with all of that.
His commentary on Tuesday contained:
* Asking Scott Davies played his highest level football with QPR!
* Not knowing who had executed the wonderful wing play that led to Scott’s goal at Torquay.
* Equating his own thoughts (in his obviously top level playing career as a substitute) to that of Scott’s! At least once every game, we get “When I played” memories from Rob!
It’s also incredible how many times he can’t identify players or didn’t see what happened!

This is akin to scraping the barrel for moaners corner.
I'm sure Rob won't mind the critisism as long as his 250k annual BBC contract continues

Re: Rob Worrall
Won't surprise me if BBC pull live comms on NL matches to reduce costs. It's been a topic for sometime.
Quite hard to find someone who has anything positive to say about live radio commentary on our matches.
Use it or lose it.

Can see your first point happening.
Would disagree with the second. Lots of fans on here (and opposition) praise Rob and co for their hard work and dedication.

That's good to hear. Let's hope the coverage continues.redblueuptoyou wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 6:11 pmCan see your first point happening.

Re: Rob Worrall
Mistakes happen and identifying players can be tricky sometimes, but the one that got me recently was at Alty when Rob spent an inordinate amount of time trying to work out if it was Ryan Jones or Josh Barrett taking a corner, finally deciding it was Barrett, before correcting himself and announcing it was an Altrincham corner.
I couldn't get my head around that one.

Re: Rob Worrall
Oh, for goodness sake. This is the second time the OP has posted this comment about Rob Worrall, having already vented in the match thread.
I'm personally grateful for the commentaries Rob provides and even if he's not perfect, he's a damn sight better than many of the non-league commentators out there. Would the OP wish to travel the length and breadth of the country once or twice a week, and endure all the stresses and unreliability of our creaking transport infrastructure? I sure as hell wouldn't.
As for the two boys he brought to the mic on Saturday - boo-bloody-hoo. I'm so sick and tired of society pandering to kids - we've created an entire generation of weak-minded, fragile darlings who are ill-equipped for the rough seas of adulthood. So what if Rob was a bit short with them? Jesus, if that's the worst trauma they have to experience in their young lives, they should consider themselves blessed.

Re: Rob Worrall
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Rob have another job too? So if he isn't always up to date on all the facts and figures then that really doesn't bother me one bit, mind you there are some good stats provided to us throughout the match. If you watch Rob work, you'll realise he does juggle a lot of things so he may not see everything, plus depending on where he is sitting because normally its different from the camera and/or fans then he may not of got a good look at who did a pass, assist, goal etc.
When you listen to other commenters if Rob isn't doing a match some of them put you to sleep, last minute winner might get an "goal" and that's it, Rob is enthusiastic about Aldershot, the game and players which is significantly better then others.
All in all, long may Rob continue
