Got to be interested in the Camrose, Birdy. It's part of our history. Who can forget the ups and downs of ATFC matches up there inside the Artic Circle.Birdman wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 5:10 pm Don’t go any further if you’re not.

It's an old sad story that keeps repeating itself. The cowboy football club owner who asset strips, sells of the ground for development, doesn't know the difference between houses and "homes", and dumps the football club to struggle on on some piece of wasteland.
(Aside: I sometimes think there can only be a handful of us in the English-speaking world who know the difference between a home and a pile of bricks and mortar.)
Spare a thought for the poor souls who affordably buy an "affordable home" on the Camrose site. What must their heating bills be like?

That reminds me of when I used to catch the train home from London (again, back in the ‘70’s. I sometimes purchased an Evening News or Standard (can’t remember which) and in the property section dwellings were listed as ‘houses for sale for under £15,000’. After that they were listed as ‘homes for sale’.Old Bob wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 5:33 pmGot to be interested in the Camrose, Birdy. It's part of our history. The phrase ‘affordable homes’ is a term that I think is rather misleading and it’s one that’s been used by both main parties for the last few years. What does the term actually mean to ‘the man/woman in the street’. To me it’s a political marketing gimmick. And let’s be realistic, the house builders are going to want to make a reasonable profit and won’t build these ‘affordable homes’ at cost.

Cold potato field.
Re: The Camrose (for those of you who are interested)
It's politic speak-totally meaningless drivel. The one that really gets on my nerves is the total vapid cliche "We'll employ 10,000 extra nurses teachers police" (every useless Party spouts this dross) and the obvious response; "Really? Where are you going to get them ? Off a shelf in Tesco?" And you never hear about these 10,000 extra nurses teachers etc until the next election where they should be saying,we'll employ an extra 9,994 as we got 6 new ones last time.Birdman wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 5:51 pmThat reminds me of when I used to catch the train home from London (again, back in the ‘70’s. Except that’s not what’s has happened in the case of BTFC and the ex-owner, as you well know because we’ve had this discussion before.Old Bob wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 5:33 pm

The basic outlines of the sad story are the same, although the details vary from case-to-case.Turnkey wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 7:22 pmExcept that’s not what’s has happened in the case of BTFC and the ex-owner, as you well know because we’ve had this discussion before.Old Bob wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 5:33 pm

This being so, the "narrative" (apologies for the Post-Modern-Speak) is not invalidated by pointing out that specific details may not apply in any particular case.
Re: The Camrose (for those of you who are interested)
Referring to "homes" when the bastards are actually referring to properties or dwellings or piles of bricks and mortar is 100%, solid-gold bullshit.Birdman wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 5:51 pmThat reminds me of when I used to catch the train home from London (again, back in the ‘70’s. "Affordable homes" is similarly 100%, solid-gold politician's' bullshit in the same vein as "hard working families".
God, do they take us as thick and unable to see through that crap, or what? (But then people voted for Margaret Thatcher and Donald Trump, so maybe they are right and people who take the trouble to think things through are wrong?)
