Shots v Tamworth matchday thread

I'm chuffed you're all so delighted with scraping a draw against one of the poorest and one dimensional sides i think I've seen at the Rec in 30 years.

Re: Shots v Tamworth matchday thread
We've played two games with actual capable footballers in the back 3 and got 4 points, and could've had 6 easily. Give them credit for assessing where we are as a squad and making changes. If we were still trotting Maghoma and Byrd out at the back I'd be as worried as anyone but the two new lads look very good indeed. not perfect but they're young and they're new to all this, but there's a platform to build on now. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they go on a winning run now.SteveyAsp wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:51 pmWe've played 28 games and we're 18th perhaps by now manager, coaches and players should be doing the "right things" ?Silasgoldeen wrote:there's a difference between couldn't and didn't. Unfortunately Aaron Jones hasn't been the same player since his injury last seasonWeybourne Shot wrote:Exactly this ... moving Frost to the right and bringing Jones on down the left would have provided more threat down the flanks, we just needed to get behind them more often. With AJ seemingly reluctant to take players on down the right it makes it easier for teams to defend against us. Playing sideways across the pitch when they were just sitting behind the ball becomes frustrating to watch. We had the tools to beat them but alas it wasn't to be, we had the chances probably the best one fell to JB just after our second goal but he shot wide when he probably should have scored. Great game to watch however one of most entertaining I've seen at the EBB this season. Woodhouse was superb one goal and an assist in his first home game he's going to be an asset for us going forwards. You certainly cannot fault the effort of those players in red and blue this afternoon. Playing like this I feel sure that more victories are on the horizon.Silasgoldeen wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:39 pm thought everyone did well today. Dewhurst made some very good saves late on to prevent disaster, thought Armitage was outstanding and Woodhouse obviously very good winning balls in their box. Having two proper defenders at the back is night and day compared to what we've been seeing to this point, it's like a different team. Olly Scott good, too. Theo's best game for ages as well, played with his head up.
The only challenge I'd have is at wing back. I don't think AJ is fast or athletic enough to be a modern wing back and Tyler kept cutting in when their right back was there for the taking. So Ryan Jones on the left and Frost on the right might have been good. Otherwise can't fault anyone today, terrific performance.

Agree, Frost on the right and Olly or Ryan on the left. Will only assume Ryan was dropped is because Frost is better than him defensively.Weybourne Shot wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:55 pmExactly this ... moving Frost to the right and bringing Jones on down the left would have provided more threat down the flanks, we just needed to get behind them more often. Bitterly disappointed to drop 2 points at home . Same old Aldershot first half lots of probing with no end result . 3 minutes into 2nd half concede a goal, which makes it an uphill battle ,plenty of chances 2nd half to win the game . 2 points today Barrett made a lot of wrong choices today ,but on his form who can blame him . 2nd point probably Theos best game in a while yes there were some poor balls from him ,but he cut them open 4 times I remember with some great passes . Plus he had a great effort saved right at the end .

No doubt we’ll see our best midfielder at Tadley on Tuesday night. Need him for the big games like that.

Too much aimless plodding around the pitch being slower to loose balls, 50/50s and second balls.
As someone mentioned previously, there’s no creativity from Hargreaves and Theo, and too often they are passengers.

one thing you can see if you look for it is how Henry doesn't waste any seconds on the ball. Sees what he wants to do and then does it. Nobody else in the team is like that, but these split seconds are what allows defences to settle, and it's partly why he and Akpan could be so good down that side (irrelevant now as AJ doesn't push up and stays at that annoying angle halfway between the halfway line and the box). When Ryan Jones was playing well he was being very decisive too. The pitch isn't helping but if I had one gripe it's that too many people took that extra touch. but it's night and day compared to some of the slop from earlier in the season.

Agreed to a point. The number 9 Creany was goading the crowd on both counts and the referee, who had a good game turned a blind eye to it. Enjoy scoring in front of your own fans but with only 103 turning up he was obviously gets more pleasure out of winding the crowd. A total classless moron along with Tonks ! Who would want to travel the length and breadth of the country to watch a team that time wastes at every opportunity. Be prepared for the same tactics against Borhamwood next Saturday !Alex wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:59 pm No idea why their 9 decided to celebrate his goals in front of the Eastbank. Still think it’s very odd when you choose not to join your own supporters!
Eastbank poor again today. Too much focus on chanting about the chairman instead of backing the players, and it’s becoming boring!
Not enjoying the home matchday experience at the moment.
Other than that, a good game to watch with us dominating for and trying to win it the right way for large parts. However, either side could have nicked in in added time.
Disappointing with the East Bank song reference the Chairman when we needed their full backing. Normally they are brilliant less the pyros and songs that have landed us with heavy fines we can ill afford.

Why was Tonks a classless moron? From what I could see, he had some banter with the crowd but appeared good natured.

Is that the same out-of-form Oldham that were sitting top of the NATIONAL LEAGUE FORM TABLE at 3.00pm last Saturday?!!
