Bit bigger of course, but Cheltenham isn’t the sort of place that you might expect a “Proper” club either!

Farnham was, of course, too posh for a Kentucky Fried Chicken which only lasted a couple of years from about 1983 to 1985 in the Borough.
No the kentucky went because the bill for window replacement was to much every weekend
Didn’t they get a truck full of concrete pipes through the window once after the brakes failed on the said truck coming down Castle Street?

That’s the old “Slug & Lettuce” isn’t it? Replacing like for like realistically, and don’t forget Haslemere had a Wetherspoons once!

Farnham still hasn’t go any of the big names fast food restaurants, and I don’t think they will as it probably doesn’t fit in with the way the town wants to be. That cheeky little number 3 x miles up the road called Aldershot is a different story!

The Farnham KFC was a brave experiment, but long since consigned to history. Shame, as it was good!
From someone who is a Farnham boy, it’s not the town it once was. It hasn’t got worse, it’s just changed. Years ago it had a good few pubs where friends from surrounding area could meet up, the Hop bag was one, then there was the royal deer, William cobbett to name a few others.

The fact that it once had a KFC that failed, was not due to lack of use. Farnham FC for years had alway hobbled along in the shadows of the old AFC, they now have a chairman who is ambitious for the club & is putting it the foundations for that ambition to bear fruit, as a Farnham boy, I wish them well.
Thought the William Cobbet was still there? Hop Bag was a good pub and so was the Marlborough Head. You just knew when they refurbed the Seven Stars and Waverley Arms they were going to close!

That KFC was really busy, but it did not fit with the town and I think life was made hard. I used to have a few pints in the Queens Head on a Thursday and then pop over. When my other half (before we got married) lived in Midhurst it was always slightly further to go to the Farnham KFC than the Chichester one, but the former was far superior.

Said it before on here that FTFC have got their model right. A tie up with Brewdog in their 2 x bars is a masterstroke as an example, but Farnham will always be constrained by the very obvious limits of the Memorial Ground. I believe there is a covenant on any potential sale with Heineken (who now are responsible, many takeovers later, of the old Farnham United Breweries) which goes back to when the club was formed in 1906 and the “donation” (for want of a better word) of the ground by the brewery.
Terry owens ex wife ran the wave in my younger days with the legend who was Gordon . Drank there from 88 till it closed in 2017 . It was not a pub for the feint hearted . You respected everyone in there . I loved it rough and ready but it was mint . So sad when it went

Must have been getting on for 40 x years or so ago now anyway. I remember there was a Police Officer who saw what was happening with the out of control lorry and hurriedly got people out of the way and got a commendation for this. I won’t name the officer, but I had been at school with him during the 1970s. Guess he must have long retired from the Police now and I haven’t seen him since my Cousin’s funeral in 1984.

A lot of the interior fittings/pictures of the Farnham KFC were re-used in the recently closed Aldershot KFC in Union St, but they vanished in subsequent refurbishments.
