Re: Widds Jr.
I'd have Lee Holsgrove over Theo - a limited player but he put himself about, broke up play, gave a simple pass to a teammate who could do something meaningful with the ball ... he made the players around him better.
Re: Widds Jr.
I actually mentioned Steve Watson very deliberately. One of the defences given of Theo is that he does the "dirty work" or the "unseen work" of the holding midfielder and therefore doesn't get the recognition because our fans don't see that. What nonsense. We've had many players doing that sort of role, who have actually been quite popular in their time Steve Watson being a good example, but I could also have said Lewis Chalmers, Jake Gallagher, Jim Kellerman or Nick Roddis. They all received praise because they were actually good at what they did.

Keane Anderson's distribution has been AWFUL so far but in terms of helping out team-mates he's actually been OK.Jason wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 6:18 pm I actually mentioned Steve Watson very deliberately. Ricky Newman was pretty damn good at it too.Jason wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 6:18 pm I actually mentioned Steve Watson very deliberately. Theo shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as these players, it's disrespectful

damn, I saw Newman score an absolute belter for Palace in the winter of 1994, home to Ipswich Town. Funny how the human brain works, that memory had been stored away for ever.

Re: Widds Jr.
The paying of a fee just adds a bit to the annoyance. We also paid good money for Kai Corbett, who hasn't exactly shone this season - but at least he's serving time on the bench as a result and behaving sensibly. No preferential treatment or p*ss-taking.Jason wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 3:49 pm The irony of a thread about a topic asking people to stop discussing that topic!
But ultimately, the Theo topic will come up again and again, be that on a new topic, or a match day thread, or wherever else it is relevant all the time it remains relevant.
A lot of people feel very frustrated by Theo being in the team and I think the fact that his dad is the manager is almost a bit of a blind spot to the debate. The fact is we paid a fee for this player. When we all know that ATFC survives very much on a tight rope when it comes to finances, people are obviously going to be frustrated if they think that money is being squandered.
For a player to have a fee paid for them we expect something worthy of that fee. Think of when we paid a fee for Gary Abbott. That received a lot of criticism or at the very least raised eyebrows at the time. But was soon quashed by the quality of what he provided.
The only way this topic goes away whilst Theo remains at the club is for him to start playing at a level that justifies his fee. I'd be thinking something along the lines of a Steve Watson type performer in that central midfield role. Theo is a long way short of that at present.

Just watched his post match interview and he speaks well enough and it’s blatantly obvious that the players in the group are a tight knit group.
I honestly still can’t get my head around that some actually think that the geezer faked his injury.
I mean I can full understand the nepotism bit but I ain’t have this faking his injury nonsense.

Sets up goal. Swears at fans. Gets jeered. Within a minute, goes down innocuously. Tries to stand up, sits down. Stretchered off. No injury update. 7 days later playing golf. 7 more days later playing football.
Re: Widds Jr.
Probably paying a fee for Theo was a way of paying King's Lynn compensation for taking Tommy

It’s very rare a player comes back that quickly after being stretchered off… Did we ever find out what the injury was?Sean Chambers wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 12:57 am Just watched his post match interview and he speaks well enough and it’s blatantly obvious that the players in the group are a tight knit group.

I'm assuming he had a mild sprain. I've had that before where the whole thing balloons up at the time but actually isn't that bad once it settles a bit. In my case I was kicking a ball at the park and my standing foot went down a divot. Absolute agony, swelled up something silly and would've needed a stretcher for sure if I'd been playing on a pitch, but it wasn't that bad after a few days.redblueuptoyou wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 12:33 pmIt’s very rare a player comes back that quickly after being stretchered off… Did we ever find out what the injury was?Sean Chambers wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 12:57 am Just watched his post match interview and he speaks well enough and it’s blatantly obvious that the players in the group are a tight knit group.

He may well have been playing through a bit of pain but I think at this stage of the season that's probably quite normal.

I’ll find out when I see him and get the answer from the geezer himself.
I suppose he did go to hospital for nothing then.

Fair enough, all about opinions but I suspect if it was another player it might not be questioned as much.lowerbourneshot wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 2:33 pmThe injury was embarrassment I believeredblueuptoyou wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 12:33 pmIt’s very rare a player comes back that quickly after being stretchered off… Did we ever find out what the injury was?Sean Chambers wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 12:57 am Just watched his post match interview and he speaks well enough and it’s blatantly obvious that the players in the group are a tight knit group.

But it isn't another player let's remember it's the same player who had a pre Christmas break for punching somebody . Questions would have been asked regardless of who it was . Even Saturday as theo came on he had a dig at someone in the crowdSean Chambers wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 8:15 pmFair enough, all about opinions but I suspect if it was another player it might not be questioned as much.lowerbourneshot wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 2:33 pmThe injury was embarrassment I believeredblueuptoyou wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 12:33 pm
