Aldershot Town 2-1 Woking - FA Trophy Semi-Final - Saturday 5th April 2025 (Match Day Thread)
Re: Aldershot Town 2-1 Woking - FA Trophy Semi-Final - Saturday 5th April 2025 (Match Day Thread)
It was embarrassing by Theo and rightly overturned. Interesting if he plays Easter Monday.
I'm sure we'd have been graceful in defeat if the situation was the other way round as I've never known it be the referee's fault when we lose on here.

There's no way he should play Easter Monday. It would be a total distraction and there are more preferable options in midfield in any case.

I mean not necessarily, they are just saying it was not violent not that Theo didn’t take a knock in the face. He didn’t fake the contact, he certainly made a meal of it but Beautyman’s shoulder barged him in the face with a bit of elbow slightly raised to the chest, it most likely looked higher from the Ref’s view.Silasgoldeen wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 7:00 pmwell if they're saying it wasn't a red then they're also saying Theo acted. You can't have one without the other. So I wonder if there's a punishment there or is it just not serious enough for that? Probably not I guess.

Im surprised it has been overturned. As I said on Saturday, I've yet to see a conclusive view of the red card incident. From the South Stand it certainly looked like Beautyman caught Theo in the face/throat with a swinging arm. And the referee was in a far better position than anybody..
Whatever, the Woking game is now old news. Time to move on to tomorrow's game.

Doesnt change the result and the fact that on the day we were the better team and have the better players. It was inevitable that we would score enough goals to win eventually -;against 10/11 or 12 men, it was inevitable

not sure that's necessarily true. It was 0-0 and very cagey. Woking almost certainly would've taken that score given their keeper's penalty saving expertise. We might have found a way through but we weren't really looking that cohesive. Then late on when we were on top they were playing with 10 men on a hot day. We were at home and are the better team, so all things being equal you'd expect us to win, but on the day there wasn't too much going on. It definitely changed the game massively. Saying that, I'm with Alan B and others - the ref was looking straight at it, so I don't think it was the huge mistake that others are implying.Reg's corner wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 12:37 am Doesnt change the result and the fact that on the day we were the better team and have the better players. At the end of the day these types of things are talked about no end in the papers, on tv and on forums.
The ref made the call and that’s that. Move on.
Theo, I owe you a pint

The only person who really knows if he intended to hit Theo is Beautyman. The only person who knows if what contact there was really hurt is Theo. The referee saw what he saw and deemed it to be a red card offence.
It doesn't tarnish it for me, nor do I feel any sympathy for Woking. You can look down the years at games involving us and ask questions and see what answer you get;
Were Woking assisting us with an appeal when Stokes was seemingly wrongly sent off Vs them last season and missed the West Brom game?
Did Hednesford offer to replay the 2nd leg of our Trophy semi final against them after Adam Miller was wrongly sent off?
And nobody knows for sure how any of those decisions would have affected those games, or subsequent games.
The Woking management and fans lose a lot of credibility in their claims when they start questioning the two penalties that we were awarded. Clear penalties both.
As for the scenes at the end, I do sympathise there with Woking, because actually I heard many of our long standing fans say that their enjoyment was spoilt by those invading the pitch (even once full time was confirmed). Especially as it denied those that were able to remain in the stands the opportunity to see the players do a lap of honour and the fans the chance to sing/clap their appreciation. What makes it all the more disappointing is that most who ran on went straight towards goading the Woking fans, rather than to celebrate with our players in front of the north stand. I'd imagine most that did are not regulars, probably not even regulars at what many of those that are would call "big games", for example beating Braintree when Gary Waddock was in charge to qualify for the playoffs.

Morning all, a few nights sleep and its all beginning to ease for me, even the most diehard Aldershot fan will know we got badly done on saturday, to lose your top scorer and best player for 40 minutes killed us but its football and it happens. We wont be the last team to suffer like that
Not worried about either penalty, on the replays you can see why both were given. Great save from Will for the first one and huge pressure on Henry for the 2nd. You sat back in the 90s and watched us win multiple trophies at Wembley and now its your turn, enjoy it as it doesn't happen everyday and a Woking v Aldershot semi may never happen ever again in my lifetime (which may not be a bad thing)
Theo Widdrington however, I think we all know what he is. I hope daddy doesnt leave him out on April 21st. The act alone was bad enough but the grinning at the camera was taking the piss
The scenes at the end were another increase in the poor fan behaviour at this fixture, its getting out of hand, we've had to put up with bricks, fireworks ( I know they go both ways) and now fans intent on just fighting rather than celebrating. Its a shame that Aldershot fans couldnt celebrate with the team because of some helmets who's own aims were more important than anyone elses. Some of the footage is poor to see, I hope the bloke who attacked our keeper gets the justice he deserves and also has some marks on his back that hurt a bit. Lets hope Easter monday passes without incident, although I doubt that it will.
And lastly, Dale Gorman, our captain, booked 16 times (some when not even on the pitch), has served multiple suspensions and is a total mooncat. Rather than check out on Will he just goes in and does what he did. At a time when we really need him out there we'll probably be without him now for a time and as usual have to keep paying him even though yet again its self-enforced

I also agree with KE, the escalation in poor and embarrassing behaviour post Covid is getting beyond a joke and needs to be eradicated once and for all.
Anyone remember a fixture about 15 years ago when a period of bad behaviour saw around 80% of the eastbank closed for a league game as a warning of what the club could enforce if it felt the need?

yeah, well said. Not sure what the thinking here is. Especially the first time they went on which required them to push the gate off its hinges and shove the stewards out of the way. Top work, lads. Nothing should stand between you and your dreams.Jason wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 9:09 am
