Joking aside, I suspect the main issue (as in many other walks of life) is that there are many folk with great ideas but not too many who are available and willing to put in the time and effort to make them happen.ShotOnTarget wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 11:52 amJames Frazer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 11:20 am I wonder where we would be now if Shotsweb charged £1 per gripe and paid the proceeds into a trust fund. You'll need to set up the Trust first. That's if you have the appetite for around 3to 6 months solid work and a thick skin.

1. Those who like the idea of position but not the work
2. Those who don't understand their responsibilities
3. Those whose objectives, are, let's say, destructive in nature
Amongst the fanbase there are many talents but few with the time or inclination to put them towards building a Trust. If the sword of damocles one day falls, I wonder if there would be enough enthusiasm to see that football in Aldershot is preserved.

Good points made to be fair.Graham Stovold wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 10:57 am No doubt there were some good people with good intentions running the trust in the beginning, as the famous quote goes - recollections may vary, but imo there was a clash of egos between the 2 chairmen.
TA stood down from the board citing differences of opinion as to how the club was moving forward, the apathy set in & it was a downward spiral for the trust.
We will never know what might have been, but it was a shame the two parties were unable to work together.
Also don’t forget the setting up of the new Independent Supporters Club which was maybe a wee bit of divide and conquer.
Ray from The Crimea was the original Chairman before he stepped down.

Absolutely bang on the money, also lot of people when it comes to it talk the talk but they don’t walk the walk, sometimes these are the ones who make the most noise.James Frazer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 12:03 pmJoking aside, I suspect the main issue (as in many other walks of life) is that there are many folk with great ideas but not too many who are available and willing to put in the time and effort to make them happen.ShotOnTarget wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 11:52 amJames Frazer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 11:20 am I wonder where we would be now if Shotsweb charged £1 per gripe and paid the proceeds into a trust fund. You'll need to set up the Trust first. I know I had great difficulty getting volunteers to help around the ground. However those that did help were always brilliant to me and the club. I know S.O.T and your brother were a great help in the summer months.

Who was instrumental in getting the Trust on the club board in the first place

Thanks Local. They were good times, with plenty of banter, tea and Donuts plus occasional lunch. My legacy is on the corner of the south stand, where I made shuttering out of scrap wood to repair the concrete! A far cry from my usual skill-set which I ended up using in the office. The experience was a real eye opener as well.

There was a line in that first link that I pasted yesterday which went “Of the 700 or so people that originally pledged to provide funds for a community-funded scheme, only 200 of those so have done so at this current time."Sean Chambers wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 1:43 pmAbsolutely bang on the money, also lot of people when it comes to it talk the talk but they don’t walk the walk, sometimes these are the ones who make the most noise.James Frazer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 12:03 pmJoking aside, I suspect the main issue (as in many other walks of life) is that there are many folk with great ideas but not too many who are available and willing to put in the time and effort to make them happen.ShotOnTarget wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 11:52 am

This reminded me of something a work colleague said to me when I was working in London back in the ‘70’s, and I quote “talk costs nothing, money builds houses”.

I think what Sean was referring to was the willingness to devote time and energy to the Trust. What the fans were being asked to do was fund a bid at short notice in response to a dire financial situation that was not of their making. Had the Trust accumulated a fund over the preceding years to build an emergency fund securing regular modest contributions from the core support, a bid would have been far easier.Birdman wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 2:40 pmThere was a line in that first link that I pasted yesterday which went “*He added: "Of the 700 or so people that originally pledged to provide funds for a community-funded scheme, only 200 of those so have done so at this current time."Sean Chambers wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 1:43 pmAbsolutely bang on the money, also lot of people when it comes to it talk the talk but they don’t walk the walk, sometimes these are the ones who make the most noise.James Frazer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 12:03 pm

Dead right, SOT.
