He can pass, but can't run or tackle. In certain games - ones where we have most of the possession - he can get away with those two failings.Chris Myles wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 11:19 amYou are all at it again. He got a bit lucky close to the end of the game yesterday, grabbing an Ebbsfleet player on the edge of our area then tried throwing him to the floor.

Yes I always thought it was 2000 as well, I don’t think wolves would have given us another 3000 anywaybrian bloomfield wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 10:04 amAlways thought we had about 2000 at Molyneux, maybe my memory is falling.Frimley Green Shots wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 9:53 amYes, Aldershot finished 6th, 9 points behind Wolves and there was an impressive crowd of 20,000 at the second leg away.Peter macdonald wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 8:57 am
Indeed, the ground from memory did look old and tired in 87 but as you say they turned things around very impressively after suffering 3 relegations in a row, 84,85 and of course 86 before from their point of view the disappointment of little Aldershot beating them in the very first play off season in 87, they took it well if I remember correctly![]()
Most Wolves fans seemed convinced that it was a mere formality to overturn the 2-0 advantage Shots had from the first leg.
Perhaps about 5,000 Shots fans there (?) penned in their Main Stand and definitely in the minority, coincidentally I came across the match programme a few weeks back whilst sorting stuff out.
It all kicked off at the end with more than 40 people arrested....Happy days!![]()

Thats fair but it's also fair to say that yesterday we had all kinds of trouble in midfield before he came on. As you say, by then they were defending a lead and we had all thr ball so the situation was set for him, but he did well. Disappointing that Anderson had looked so lost but he's very young and showed enough to suggest he will reward patience. Maja would've been useful.Marcus ex W.Midlands Shot wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 11:33 amHe can pass, but can't run or tackle. Yes that was a major shock as Liverpool did a treble that season and wolves would have been just slightly better than Southampton have been this seasonlowerbourneshot wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 10:30 amMay 84 a 1 0 win at Anfield steve mardenbourgh in Div 1 was the scorer 27 months later a 2 1 win at Aldershot, how quickly things changePeter macdonald wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 8:57 amIndeed, the ground from memory did look old and tired in 87 but as you say they turned things around very impressively after suffering 3 relegations in a row, 84,85 and of course 86 before from their point of view the disappointment of little Aldershot beating them in the very first play off season in 87, they took it well if I remember correctlybrian bloomfield wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 8:49 am
Been to Molyneux 4 times with the old and new club. What a transformation in their ground over the 25 year span compared to ours, let alone 38 years that have now passed.![]()

Anderson takes up good positions and has made some good interceptions in the two games he's started, but his distribution is terribly nervous. Hopefully if we get to safety before the end of the season he can get some more minutes.Silasgoldeen wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 11:38 amThats fair but it's also fair to say that yesterday we had all kinds of trouble in midfield before he came on. Maja I think is better than Theo overall - his passing isn't as good, but it's the difference between a 5/10 and a 7/10 for me and the rest of his game is sufficiently superior to make him the better option.

Who is he referring to when he says certain players that were being lauded over didn’t perform? And did he mention that the team with his son in it was so much better? I might’ve missed itWeybourne Shot wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 12:12 pm Tommy explaining how our bumpy pitch is hindering us at present, it probably needs some rain on it now

Tommy already clearly trying to convince the fans of Theo's place in the team for the coming weeks by saying in his post match interviews that the lads that came on improved us.
Henry on for Laing - don't think Henry contributed a great deal, although the shuffling of personnel into different positions probably did.
Widdrington on for Anderson - I'll say Theo did perform better than Anderson who looked very nervous. But still nothing special.
Corbett on for Barham - Barham didn't have a great game. Corbett showed a few nice touches, but still didn't do anything that special.
So I don't think Tommy's insistence on how much better we were is accurate, I think again it is just setting it up for Theo.
I've heard an interview with Tommy where he said that Theo is in the team on merit, he has good KPIs. I'd love to know what targets they are measuring him on, because I don't see it. He can't tackle, he can't run, his passing is only average if he has all the time in the world to pick what he wants to do, otherwise that is also poor. He also has poor discipline.
He produces moments of good football, but you could pluck any player from the Isthmian Premier division, put them into our side and if they played enough minutes they would show glimpses of what makes them a player. That is not enough. It is unbelievable that we actually wasted a fee on him last season. If only that money had been spent more wisely, with the other players we had, we could be a league club now.

That seemed to be a dig at Dewhurst bizarrely. Because he mentioned him conceding goals from outside the box and obviously people went on about Dewhurst being substantially better than JvS.Mytshot wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 12:29 pmWho is he referring to when he says certain players that were being lauded over didn’t perform? We missed Ellison massively yesterday, he'd put in two tremendous performances in the two away games at the heart of our defence. Praying he is back and fit very soon.

I’d also be very interested to see Theo’s detailed stats as I just don’t see it either. If he is above average in the league for stats such as interceptions, successful tackles and pass completions in his position I will be shocked.Jason wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 12:40 pm Tommy already clearly trying to convince the fans of Theo's place in the team for the coming weeks by saying in his post match interviews that the lads that came on improved us.

And for his supposed passing skills, I’ve noticed that opposition players don’t actually press him or go near him when he’s in possession because when they watch back our games, they see he doesn’t actually do anything effective. He only has 3 assists this season which is the same as Hargreaves and one more than Tetek despite playing 11 more games. His passing is not special and is not leading to anything meaningful. Again, people are being fooled by him playing long balls to players that are in plenty of space when actually, it’s not always the most dangerous ball to play, it’s the safest and the one that is going to boost his stats the most.

These coded criticisms of players from TW are becoming extremely tiresome.Jason wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 12:40 pm Tommy already clearly trying to convince the fans of Theo's place in the team for the coming weeks by saying in his post match interviews that the lads that came on improved us.

Compare these digs to saying NOTHING when one of our players punches an opponent in the face that contributes to us losing a game, or a player that swears continuously and aggressively at supporters. Nothing said on either occasion.

Sounds like he's annoyed with Dewhurst which is probably fair, conceding three from three shots isn't the best and is what got Jordi dropped. Marcus has had a great season but you can't be letting three from three in.Mytshot wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 12:29 pmWho is he referring to when he says certain players that were being lauded over didn’t perform? Re: Aldershot Town 3-3 Ebbsfleet United - Saturday 22nd March 2025 (Match Day Thread)
I think it was a good interview. The first half there were certain "it's only ebbsfleet" vibes on the pitch and they were completely running the middle of the park. Hargreaves just wasn't involved like he usually is, and I felt Frost was equally poor (so was surprised at his motm). It looked like we could catch them over the top but nothing was going through the midfield. That seemed like a big red flag to me at the time.
We did finish the game out well but I think that's just the game state. They're sitting back trying to hold onto a lucky lead, they're not very good, we ought to be battering them.

Spot on. The issues with Widdrington have been done to death on here and it’s clear he will never change. There is no point in going over it all again, I just look forward to the day when he moves on and takes his family & friends with him.Mytshot wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 1:32 pmThese coded criticisms of players from TW are becoming extremely tiresome.Jason wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 12:40 pm Tommy already clearly trying to convince the fans of Theo's place in the team for the coming weeks by saying in his post match interviews that the lads that came on improved us.
