Yeah another in the "he was fine" pile for me. Obviously the mistake happened but that's always a risk with a new unit back there. His passes were crisp enough and he held his own in the air.

The alternative to signing Laing was probably to recall Lachlan Byrd. Laing looks a better bet to me just based on his mobility.

A mystery why he left and hasn't been recalled. Wonder if he said anything in the dressing room at Dagenham

My view would be simpler - he played half a season at NL level and was adjudged not quite up to it. He didn't play in the Dagenham game so would be surprised if your theory was true.

How do you know he’s playing for free?

The manager said it in his interview.

Looking at the highlights I think Luca Woodhouse is probably more at fault for the third goal as he overstretched trying to win the ball and ended up on the deck when Laing was probably in a better position to deal with the situation.
and Richard Walden puts the Shots 1-0 up against Man Utd

I think Luca was trying to cover for Levi. That's why he was overstretched.

I feel Laing struggled yesterday. I'm not having a go at him or writing him off prematurely, just stating what seemed obvious to me. He's probably not played much football lately and was rather thrown into the team, so there is almost certainly better to come from him. I am not forgetting that Will Armitage had a less than stellar first game for us but quickly found his feet.

having watched the highlights it looked like maybe Levi turned his back for the first goal as well when he came out to charge it down, which isn't something you like to see. So i'll downgrade my "fine" a bit but still give him a pass for it being his first game in the side and at this level.
