Or the difference between local/community and national politics.IanShots wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 1:34 pmHaha really!!!redblueuptoyou wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 1:27 pmThis 100%, although you have people on Facebook supporters groups claiming Shahid is Labour (seemingly because they don’t like what he is - or rather, isn’t - doing).IanShots wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 1:10 pm
A point I have made previously is that Shahid has lost his influence with the council with the Tories being voted out I’m afraid as that is where his connections are. That is just being realistic not being political.
It is through those connections that he managed to get as far as he has, with the long lease etc…

That is because people get so tribal they can’t accept that he is on their own political side of the fence, I’m sorry he very much is.
He even had Sayeeda Warsi opening the community stand years ago.
Re: Redevelopment Saga
I still don't see why the ground needed a full redevelopment plan.
With the lease and planning permission in place, we could have come together with sponsors and fans/trust fundraising efforts and built something similar to this at the High Street end of the ground. In a year or 18 months.

The footprint isn't much bigger/deeper than the existing path community stand and control boxes and would keep our seating/overall capacity up giving us options for further developments and upgrades, while tidying up the overall look of the ground.

The question remains, which is pertinent to any development, has the lease been signed? I can find no record that it was. So, with RBC ‘changing hands’ is the lease still ‘on the table’ and, if not, Aldershot Town Football Club Limited’s tenure over The Rec must be in extreme doubt!

It could and should have been done years ago. Had the Trust been allowed to operate unhindered many years back, opportunities could have been sought.CH wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 1:56 pm I still don't see why the ground needed a full redevelopment plan.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

I was thinking the same CH, I didn’t want to make this a bash Shahid topic, it was just for opinions of do we relocate so that we can build for the now & the future, or do we scale down to a more realistic redevelopment?CH wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 1:56 pm I still don't see why the ground needed a full redevelopment plan.

A few unforeseen circumstances have come along since the announcement was made 5 yrs ago, (Covid, issues with the MOD) but what we do know now is that a redevelopment of a good calibre, is a difficult one.
Which is why I think a relocation or a scaled down redevelopment is the only solution.

The lease will be signed on 1-4-26, by which time ATFC will be fighting relegation from the NLS and financially untenable, thus freeing up the land for creditors to develop the land.HackJowarth wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 1:59 pm The question remains, which is pertinent to any development, has the lease been signed? Also worth noting that RBC is likely to cease to exist within 2 or 3 years, most likely amalgamated into a larger Basingstoke based unitary authority.
Not sure that the MOD issue is the main problem rather that the amount of land included within the lease.
Either way, the council need to be convinced that the club is an asset to the area and needs supporting. That's part of the difference historically between Eastleigh and Rushmoor. It's about giving the town a sense of pride and purpose again as much as anything.

Now I wonder who will profit from that...?Aldershot_Rob wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 1:46 pm I'd imagine that the labour MP will have half an eye on what is happening given that it prime land for new housing.

Re: Redevelopment Saga
The issues with access across MOD land are a godsend right now as otherwise this madcap scheme would have gone ahead.Graham Stovold wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 12:03 pm When walking to the Eastleigh ground yesterday, I couldn’t help but be impressed with their facilities for their supporters. A decent bar for the fans, decent ground facilities, plenty of scope for further development. You then have to think of other clubs who have improved , York, Fylde, Solihull + a few others.
None of these clubs (imo), have the passion like our supporters. It then made me think..Why do we have problems with a ground redevelopment like no one else ?
With the difficulty the BOD are having with the MOD over a section of land, my mind is made up now that relocating is the only way of moving forward. I was always of the opinion that we should stay where we are, but unless there is some sort of alternative plan, I don’t think it’s viable.
What do others think ?
We need a far more sensible scheme that retains the essential character of the Rec but with less actual building work, opportunities for secondary revenue streams and a reasonable amount of land to build houses and apartments on.
For example:
- Refurbished East Bank
- New South Stand stretching from the slab up to the SE corner.
- New West Stand with club offices, shop, serviced offices to rent and a conference/hospitality suite. Like the far end at Eastleigh but with seats in front.
- Tidy up the North Stand (especially the gutters!)
- New floodlights
- 3 or 4 storey block of apartments across the front facing onto the High Street, possibly with turnstiles built in.
- More apartments/houses on land behind the East Bank.
- Upgrade the access for away fans from Redan Hill.
- Possibly a 3G pitch (controversial I know!)
Key to the whole thing has to be boosting the club's revenue opportunities.

In May 2014 we got planning for a new toilet block behind the East Bank away section, a much needed facility. Never got built.

Under Shahid’s watch is the relevant point. Directors use bogs in the hallowed areas, the rest of you can defecate and urinate on the floor. Make Shahid and Co use the fans ‘facilities’ they can rub shoulders with those they describe as “herds of wildebeest”.Josh wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 7:43 pmTaking the proverbiallowerbourneshot wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 6:56 pmUnder Shahids watchbrian bloomfield wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 6:01 pm In May 2014 we got planning for a new toilet block behind the East Bank away section, a much needed facility.
