Football, for the fans :? I wonder how long until the Premier League follows suit and stages either the league cup or FA abroad.
I hope they do ,Football is dead here let them go the top sides don't need fans they have that much money . The Saudis will drop football after the 34 world cup . They have got what they wanted and as soon as that's finished they'll go after something else .
Is it me or could it be a good thing? Let the money clubs go and play their inter-planetary global ball trotters nonsense. Let the rest of the league be competitive and interesting again.
The trouble is that the inter-planetary global ball trotters remain part of their "national" league set-up and pollute that with their inter-stellar nonsense.

I put "national" in quotes because there's not that much English about "England's" top sides ... foreign owners, foreign manager, foreign coaches, foreign players, foreign spectators (tourists or TV watchers). But they still poison the game at our level (no FA Cup replays, playing reserve sides in the Cup, stupid NL Cup or whatever it's called).

Depressing, init?

I wonder how many supporters of those top sides moan about too much immigration. Strangely a subject overlooked when it comes to their favourite football team.

It is depressing, but also true! Said it many times before, but the PL is a competition set in England, but with little actually English about it anymore.

In recent years the traditional opening match of the cricket season, MCC v County Champions, has been played in those cricketing hotbeds, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. A couple of years ago, 'sandstorm stopped play'. You couldn't make it up.

What have the attendances been like for all these different sports?

Even with Ronaldo, the Saudi league doesn’t seem to have really cut through.

Very good :D

The money clubs have left normal fans behind now. The FA Cup is turning into a joke too now, not sure we are ever going to see a non money team make a final again.

Thank goodness for non league football where at least you can turn up on the day and not have to pay £10 for a cup of tea.

It’s about establishing a brand (I believe this is the way of the world nowadays and history/tradition doesn’t count for anything) and the Saudi league has not yet fired the imagination (and I wouldn’t be certain it actually will).

Football or “Soccer” had real problems when a major competition started in USA with the original NASL folding in the mid 1980s. There were many, many reasons for this, and I think one was that it never really sparked interest outside of the USA and had for a long time relied on players from around the world quite clearly at the tail end of careers.

Saudi Arabia has the money, but it really isn’t a “go to” destination high on the list of many travellers for a number of reasons and this will make establishing a brand more difficult I feel.

Premier League is Foreign Owners giving Foreign managers Foreign money to buy Foreign players ....might as well play games in a Foreign country

Then we can make The Championship Div 1 , Div 1 could become Div 2, Div 2 could become Div 3 and the National league become Div 4:..
And on from that The F A cup semi finals could be played at Neutral grounds and it be on telly all day after some teams having had replays .
Only a thought
