Greatest Wembley Goal Ever

Post by Coveshot »

If you Google the greatest Wembley goal ever it shows one by Gary Alexander in the play offs. Surely Josh's must be up there somewhere.

Paul Gascogne Tottenham v Arsenal in 91 was my favourite, what a piece of magic that was!

He could and should have been the best English footballer over the last 40 years or so but we all know why not unfortunately

It's a great hit.
But that free kick gets trumped by Gazza goal v Scotland at Euro 96

Ricardo villa for Tottenham Hotspur some ten years earlier against Manchester City was quite a useful goal as well

It was way before my time, but I can never see it enough times ; Puskas's goal v England in 1953,where Wright goes in to try a clatter him (teach him a lesson!) and Puskas just drags the ball back with his left foot leaving Wright looking like an idiot getting nowhere near Puskas and sliding past on his arse whilst Puskas turned the ball into the net with same left foot.Amazing skill . Just a fantastic goal. Even Billy Wright said Puskas made a fool of him and said he looked like a fire engine dashing off to the wrong fire.

Never the same after his injury for that shocking tackle on Gary Charles in the 1991 Cup Final v Nottingham Forest.
Who knows how his career would have turned out if Roger Milford had sent him off after his chest high challenge on Gary Parker after two minutes.

Also his mates Jimmy Five Bellies, Chris Evans, Danny Baker and other hangers on didn’t help him and soon disappeared off the scene:

Such a shame to see Gazza now, incidentally Gary Charles had own problems and is a recovering alcoholic but managed to turn his life around and ended helping people who go have the same issues.

this was awesome wasn't it? Apparently in that game Hungary had a player drop into the hole between midfield and attack and England's defenders had never seen this before so couldn't decide whether to go with him or leave him, and whichever they chose went wrong. Follow him and you leave a gap behind you, leave him and he does what he wants. Bit like York away this season.

Hard to remember too many Wembley goals for some reason. I like the Ricky Villa shout, Whiteside's goal in I think 85 was always the pinnacle for my friends because it was on TV and so important, so probably the goal we saw most often. I think Ronnie Whelan got a good one, maybe the year before in the Milk Cup final, a big curler from the edge of the box.
