Rec Pitch

I am unsurprised and somewhat apathetic. Shahid has continually said in the past "We are sustainable"
He did say he wanted us in the Football League but no idea how that is achievable.
No idea what's going on with the ground.
Think the chairman needs to come out and tell it as it is. We are now a relatively small National League club and our goal is to stay up each year.
Sad times.
Quite frankly, the Wembley appearance has saved me from disappearing over the horizon.

As you say the key word is reality.Fuggletim wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 10:45 pm A football club is a business, and like any other business responds to rising costs by raising prices. No, I don’t want to pay more to go to football, but then again I don’t want to pay more for my groceries, utilities, beers etc, but it is a fact of life. Unfortunately rising prices (aka inflation) is a reality for everyone and we need to understand this, even if we don’t like it.
Regarding the pitch, through postponements and an extended period out of the UK, I hadn’t seen the pitch from early February until mid April, but it does look a bit “rough meadow” at the moment I will say. Hopefully something can be done with it over the Summer.
I think we had one of the longest threads on here a few years ago was about the ongoing pitch renovation, so it might keep us all going during the close season!![]()
When I see what Premier clubs pay and what people pay to eat out and the expensive cars that they run, I do wonder.
However, I can still see room for some reductions for some catagories of fans if possible.
But it is vital for Aldershot to keep in financial good shape and for that we must rely on BOD to deliver the right ticket prices.

Where we do fall short is on our OAP concession charges which I think should be increased to £40 as we have all the money.

Re: Rec Pitch
Jokes aside Brian, but whilst I admit it is at levels below the NL, the “Senior” concessions start when someone reaches 60 (even, off at a tangent, Wightlink ferries start the discount at this age). I think currently we start ours at 66. I am below state retirement age, but have retired from work in my early/mid 60s. I obviously look old (!),as I have been asked at the club when buying tickets, am I a “Concession?”
I normally make a joke saying something like “….do I look like I am over 16 then?” but will always admit I am still under the age of 66. Have we ever seriously thought about lowering the “Senior” age? You don’t have to be state pension age to be retired.

Plenty of entertainment and hospitality places have quietly dropped concession prices for seniors (have been wanting to take my parents to see their grandson at a theme park but it’s just not worth that kind of money). I hope we don’t follow suit.Fuggletim wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 10:24 am Jokes aside Brian, but whilst I admit it is at levels below the NL, the “Senior” concessions start when someone reaches 60 (even, off at a tangent, Wightlink ferries start the discount at this age). Re: Rec Pitch
I guess that the biggest concession dropped was the Winter Fuel allowance, but heh, let’s not get political here…..
Going off at a tangent a bit, in the Philippines all you have to do at a lot of restaurants and entertainment venues etc is produce your ID to show you are over 60 and you get 20% discount. It doesn’t work in bars (well on the beer element unfortunately) and technically you should have Philippine Government ID, but I have had no problems using my UK Driving Licence to prove my age.
It is the state’s way (apart from a pension) to thank the older generation for their contributions over the years. Would be nice if the UK would do something similar.

Winter fuel allowance should be means tested and increased financially to those that need it.Fuggletim wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 10:12 am I guess that the biggest concession dropped was the Winter Fuel allowance, but heh, let’s not get political here…..

When we increased the concession to 66 after the change in the pension act in 2014 I felt it was wrong, as I believe we were penalising those who couldn't afford it rather than those that could. But it fell on death ears.
Re: Rec Pitch
They do that in Canada, Tim, except that the qualifying age is just 55.Fuggletim wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 10:12 am I guess that the biggest concession dropped was the Winter Fuel allowance, but heh, let’s not get political here…..

Re: Rec Pitch
Really shocked and surprised at a number of points made by DW.
Given the 'financial' success of last season why are we still going to post a loss ?
How on earth are the club owed £200k by a ticket company ? Who are they ? How were they appointed ? What due diligence was done ? Can the club survive a 200k bad debt ? If so how ?
More questions than answers from DWs statement and I fear there are real financial problems ahead as based on my career in finance I don't think the club will see any of the 200k.

He did quote 'operating loss'.
That may well exclude transfer 'ins and outs'.

The trouble is that we won't know until the accounts are published at Companies House will we? How late are they now?TracoShot wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 11:46 am Really shocked and surprised at a number of points made by DW.

What I don't get is, it's against FA and League rules!
