Season Stats Defence
Lost 17 League Games
Conceded 83 League Goals
Exactly the same as we did last season
Defensively it felt like we had been better but the stats say we've been exactly the same

Re: Season Stats Defence
Before the Trophy semi final, it felt like defensively we'd been better despite all the injuries - in particular, the "Self destruct" games where we'd lose by 4, 5, 6 goals seemed to have become much less frequent - however, that has deteriorated over the past month or so.Mick Earls Fan Club wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 9:15 pm Lost 17 League Games

Ellison, Armitage and Woodhouse are 3 young lads that have had to play a lot of games in a relatively short period of time because of the injuries and fixture congestion (before the last few weeks) - I do wonder if that's just caught up a bit on them, especially without an experienced head alongside them.

Re: Season Stats Defence
I think with Tommy in charge we will always concede a lot of goals. He gives a lot of freedom to the front three and doesn't expect them to do much in the way of defensive work- this allows us to counter attack in numbers, but does mean the midfield two are often overrun. This has been the case over the last two seasons, regardless of who is playing there. This results in our defenders being quite exposed, and often having to defend in 1vs1 situations which typically teams will try to exploit.
We've had a few good defenders since Tommy came in, and yet we have always conceded a lot of goals. This says to me it's not about the individuals, but more about the tactical set up. Personally I'd rather be an Aldershot (scoring lots and conceding lots, as opposed to being a Yeovil who score few and concede few).

Mostly agree, but perhaps if we had someone decent to play alongside Cam we’d be better?Red hot shot wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 12:07 pm I think with Tommy in charge we will always concede a lot of goals. It is also about the individuals. We have an Isthmian level player continually in our central midfield. It can't help.Red hot shot wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 12:07 pm I think with Tommy in charge we will always concede a lot of goals. been saying this all season. This tactical setup looks good when we're winning but awful when we don't. Our defenders will always look worse than they are playing this way. Theoretically our forwards will look better than they are...Red hot shot wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 12:07 pm I think with Tommy in charge we will always concede a lot of goals. I'm largely for it but it would be nice if we had a plan B, or "operation 0-0" they could try for the tough away games or just to take the sting out of matches. This is probably also related to how we keep underwhelming against the worst teams in the league.
