Jonny Stuttle
Re: Jonny Stuttle
OK, DH. I am happy to accept what you say. Still I would be very surprised indeed if Jonny Stuttle did not playing successfully at a higher level than NLS. Very surprised.DH wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 6:13 pmI know people who have worked for professional clubs in the very recent past and the amount of science, planning, scouting etc is indeed in extremely great depth. The players are expensive and precious commodities rather than human beings. So my comment is not an assumption but based upon what I've been told.Old Bob wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 4:53 pmI think you are overinterpreting the situation, DH. Even assuming the parent club thinks in great depth about the best club to place a player on loan, which is a big (probably unwarranted) assumption, there will be a large number of factors impacting on the choice. The perceived level of the player is only one of these.DH wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 4:08 pm Neither us nor Stuttle decided where he would play. His coaches and mentors at Bournemouth did. If they felt he'd benefit from going to another NL club, that's where he would have gone after he left us.
But they didn't. Those coaches felt he'd be better off at NLS level to get games in mens football because they decided that's his level for now. if they think he's ready for NL level football next year, that's where he'll play.
I've no opinion of him as I barely saw him play.
But there are loads of players who bang goals in at NLS level who can't at NL level - Hadhi Ghandour for one.
In short, you cannot straightforwardly infer that a loan to Farnborough means NLS is Jonny's present ceiling. From what I saw of him in his one and only start for us at Oldham, he is capable of better.
Re: Jonny Stuttle
He played in the centre in his one and only start for us at Oldham and did a fine job of stretching Oldham's defence, freeing up space for Barrett to win us the game. He did indeed look like a round peg in a round hole in a position where we have struggled to be effective since Effiong left.Marcus ex W.Midlands Shot wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 6:24 pm I found the whole situation really odd. Barham can lead the line with his effort and persistence, but he's not a traditional no. 9 and Stuttle was. But we didn't play him then when we did start him, he played wide.
He seemed like a possible round peg to fit into a round hole. I went away to Solihull and was taken with his performance when he came on for the last 25 or so minutes. He looked a much better prospect than Maxie Mullins. I know Mullins is our player and theoretically can make us money if we develop him, but at this stage it seems a bit fanciful that he could ever improve enough to become a forward for a League team. I guess we'll know in a couple of years.

It'll be very interesting to watch his progress. Likewise it'll be interesting to see where our young centre backs end up playing next season.Old Bob wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 6:47 pmOK, DH. Re: Jonny Stuttle
They'll have learned so much. Remember Armitage first couple of games and he had to handle a couple of huge cf and a barrage of goal kicks booming out of the sky. I remember thinking "this isn't the Southampton academy now" but to be fair he really adapted. I bet it's been a fantastic education for them. They should like the Wembley pitch too.DH wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 7:04 pmIt'll be very interesting to watch his progress. Re: Jonny Stuttle
It begs the question, why did we sign him? Apparently we had been watching him for some time. There's only a handful of NL clubs in the area and maybe they didn't need a forward so Farnborough was best option.DH wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 4:08 pm Neither us nor Stuttle decided where he would play. He should have been given more ean opportunity. We've got enough players who are NLS standard.
Re: Jonny Stuttle
I feel it shows the mentality of a manager. On loan and does not play him ? How much did we pay for Corbett and his son ? Not just fee wise Sorry wise.
Sorry the management team are wrong. Fair play if Mr Azeem is finally standing up to him and told him to pipe down.

Re: Jonny Stuttle
If Jonny wasn't happy with being behind players he thought he could deliver more than, then it was right that Bournemouth recalled him. Spencer played a blinder here.
