Interesting view on his time with the Shots. Should we have used him more?

Of course we should. Anyone could see the lad had some potential.Johnboy wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 7:29 pm Interesting view on his time with the Shots. Should we have used him more?

Of course we should. If was so obvious he was a class above but stubbornness and misplaced loyalties got in the way.Johnboy wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 7:29 pm Interesting view on his time with the Shots. Should we have used him more?

definitely one to watch. Like everyone else says, you could tell straight away. He struck the ball very decisively and cleanly, moved well, and just seemed to have a dynamism about him. Only Tommy will know what he wasn't doing right but, with all due respect to Jack, I think Stuttle was woefully under-used.
Re: Jonny Stuttle
Tommy doesn't like using loan players unless he has to.
Very rarely will he pick a loan player genuinely over a squad player.
Remember the Jack Bycroft/JVS situation?
He's only been using Armitage Ellison and Woodhouse because there's literally no one else

Re: Jonny Stuttle
Stuttle is a natural goalscorer Barham is not but does have other qualities.
Hec was very badly treated here, only our staff no why they didnt need a goalscorer.

I was also surprised that Stuttle was not given his chance at Aldershot when he seem to have talent. He has proved his point, he has a bright future.

Re: Jonny Stuttle
So true. A good manager makes the best use of the resources he has available, that would inlude loan players clearly one of TWs many weaknesses is his ability to do that, even when he has a decent players available.
Re: Jonny Stuttle
Well, NCS, the more time rolls on, the more evidence we gather of Tommy's shortcomings. For me, they have accumulated to the point where I would welcome a change.Northcampshot wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 2:18 pmSo true. Re: Jonny Stuttle
Neither us nor Stuttle decided where he would play. His coaches and mentors at Bournemouth did. If they felt he'd benefit from going to another NL club, that's where he would have gone after he left us.
But they didn't. Those coaches felt he'd be better off at NLS level to get games in mens football because they decided that's his level for now. if they think he's ready for NL level football next year, that's where he'll play.
I've no opinion of him as I barely saw him play.
But there are loads of players who bang goals in at NLS level who can't at NL level - Hadhi Ghandour for one.

I think this slightly goes above the level of competition though. To me Stuttle just had an it factor you don't always see. You never see that in Ghandour. Maybe this is what scouts look for in a player who can rise up the divisions a bit.DH wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 4:08 pm Neither us nor Stuttle decided where he would play. If we come back in 5 years and Dolaghan is at Worthing and Stuttle is at League 1 I wouldn't be at all surprised.
Re: Jonny Stuttle
I think you are overinterpreting the situation, DH. Even assuming the parent club thinks in great depth about the best club to place a player on loan, which is a big (probably unwarranted) assumption, there will be a large number of factors impacting on the choice. The perceived level of the player is only one of these.DH wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 4:08 pm Neither us nor Stuttle decided where he would play. His coaches and mentors at Bournemouth did. In short, you cannot straightforwardly infer that a loan to Farnborough means NLS is Jonny's present ceiling. From what I saw of him in his one and only start for us at Oldham, he is capable of better.
Re: Jonny Stuttle
I know people who have worked for professional clubs in the very recent past and the amount of science, planning, scouting etc is indeed in extremely great depth. The players are expensive and precious commodities rather than human beings. So my comment is not an assumption but based upon what I've been told.Old Bob wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 4:53 pmI think you are overinterpreting the situation, DH. Re: Jonny Stuttle
I found the whole situation really odd. Barham can lead the line with his effort and persistence, but he's not a traditional no. 9 and Stuttle was. But we didn't play him then when we did start him, he played wide.
He seemed like a possible round peg to fit into a round hole. I went away to Solihull and was taken with his performance when he came on for the last 25 or so minutes. He looked a much better prospect than Maxie Mullins. I know Mullins is our player and theoretically can make us money if we develop him, but at this stage it seems a bit fanciful that he could ever improve enough to become a forward for a League team. I guess we'll know in a couple of years.
