Realist or pessimist?

Post by Birdman »

At the time of this post two teams currently in the bottom four could ‘relegate’ us if results pan out unfavourably for us. D&R obviously the biggest threat, Maidenhead can achieve the same points total but their gd is against them.

D&R (21st, on 47 points and slightly better gd than us). Fixtures remaining :-

Away to Braintree (18th)
Home to Altrincham (9th)
Away to Solihull (16th)

Maidenhead (22nd, on 45 points but a gd of -23). Fixtures remaining :-

Away to Wealdstone (20th)
Away to Ebbsfleet (24th, relegated)
Home to Boston Utd (19th).

Of course if today’s results go against them then we (or I in this case) can breathe a sigh of relief.

it's not just them though, four teams need to outperform us in the run-in. I think the Sutton point probably did the trick tbh but it's going to be far closer than it should've been.

Two games to go and still threatened with relegation. There’s no progress under this manager and I fear for us next season if he’s allowed another summer to recruit.
We’ll be reliant on others dropping points because this side won’t get another one this season. Get your money on a Barnet cricket score next week.

We’ll not get another point, they’re too scared of getting hurt and missing Wembley, and as can be seen today the replacements are just not good enough. That said, it will take an extraordinary set of results to see us down.

Thing is in true Aldershot fc fashion we will prob go get a point at Barnet and then lose convincingly at home to Yeovil.

I think we have just about done enough but it's hardly an achievement staying up by the skin of our teeth in this league.

Wembley will be a great occasion but it shouldn't paper over the cracks, we are a very poor side, poorly managed and I don't expect anything different next season with Tommy likely to sign up all his old kings lynn favourites.

I think a few of the "maybe" players have played their way out of contention for next season. Depends what else they can bring in I suppose.

Great point, SB66. It was only a few weeks back it felt like we were on the cusp of something special.
A good cup run, excellent form in the league, a feel good factor around the club. Fast forward to now and it feels like we're back in the brown stuff.

If Maidenhead don't win and Daggers lose then we're safe for another year, if they both win then the situation would be a little different.
and Richard Walden puts the Shots 1-0 up against Man Utd

Here’s one for you all -

IF we go down, would you keep Tommy in place as manager for the Wembley final?

I wouldn't keep him in place full stop. Regardless of what happens at Wembley. He has proved pretty comprehensively that he barely knows what he is doing with regard to team selection and set up.

The man has got to go. Please BOD, thank him for his efforts and wish him well for the future.

Wouldn’t keep him if we stay up.

It happened before (notably with one round of fixtures when we got relegated to the Conference) and it could happen again, but I think there are quite a few clubs apart from us who hope it will all go their way. It isn’t going to for everyone and we need to get a sense of proportion.
