As in golf the score card does not paint a picture, it just shows the result - we got the ball in the net twice, Fylde never managed it. Hence the history books will show just a 2-0 victory.Old Bob wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 11:15 pmThere is no hiding the fact that we got away with one there. The team selection was completely off the wall, verging on disrespectful to Fylde and the paying punters. I made it that Fylde had 7 good goal chances before we had one ... and scored via a deflection.
Easy to be wise after the event, but that was a game where we needed to win and should not have been gambling with bizarre team selection.
Note that Dewhurst was rightly chosen as man of the match. That's because we gifted Fylde multiple chances to test him.

We got lucky, but the team we put out was competitive enough to get lucky. Keane Anderson will be an established first team regular this time next season, and Levi Laing did well tonight - perhaps we shouldn't all have written him off after three games when he's playing with new team-mates and returning from a long injury? Our business model is to find diamonds in the rough, we have to allow new signings to settle in. Hargreaves didn't look any great shakes between August and October, now we are worried he's too good for us and might leave.Old Bob wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 11:24 pmI disagree, Silas. You are being wise after the event. It’s dumb and arrogant to presume you are going to win games by deliberately "resting" key players. We got lucky when Fylde failed to capitalise on any one of a number of first-half chances.Silasgoldeen wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 9:56 pmI know we did this earlier in the week but it's not brainless is it? In his mind he's sacrificing a bit today to get a bit of an edge on Saturday. You might not agree but I think it's a perfectly reasonable approach. Now Hargreaves and Barrett and Jones are fresh and we got 3 pts anyway. Might not matter but it's a game of fine margins so you do what you can to out odds in your favour.
You have only to look at the regularity with which this stupid ploy misfires when PL teams put out weakened sides in the FA Cup ...

We didn’t seem to play well tonight but the goals we’re well taken but on Saturday we need to mark & play better plus keep our discipline & not get sucked into Wokings possible cheating tactics
We need a strong level headed referee as well

The lowest home attendance of the season was 1437 against Braintree - yesterday we beat that by 23 which happens to be the same as the number of away fans from Fylde that attended yesterday.

Sadly 6600 x miles away and I couldn’t get a Cheap Day Return.

It's only a game of football. We don't need to give anyone a "reason" for not attending, thanks.Peter macdonald wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 5:03 amI think you have a valid reason but a lot of others haven’t

With regards to the game, a great win and justification for the team selection which admittedly made me nervous when I first saw it. Well done Tommy and team.

Nor sure we got lucky at all. They had 2 really good chances but I thought we controlled the game in the 2nd halfMarcus ex W.Midlands Shot wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 12:21 amWe got lucky, but the team we put out was competitive enough to get lucky. I’d agree with that - I was judging him by previous standardsAlex wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 11:36 pmI agree with what Adzy has said.redblueuptoyou wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 11:29 pm Also, Theo played well tonight. Tried to overplay a couple of times but mainly kept it simple and quietly went about his work.
Typical Theo display. Some good but some bad.
Easy to look like a good passer of the ball when not under pressure to release it quickly.
Still too slow and at times reluctant to stick a foot in!
Was far too easy for Fylde to test Dewhurst from distance, IMO.
But hey ho! We won![]()

He wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Fylde team.

Not necessarily. It was a rearranged Tues game, not originally scheduled for this date. I'd imagine quite a few people (myself included) have to schedule work commitments well in advance and, upon seeing 1 April as a free Tuesday, had agreed to work. Then the February Fylde fixture got moved ....Alex wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 10:56 pmTough times mate!lowerbourneshot wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 10:54 pm Job done tonight well done everyone involved ,thought Corbett did well tonight . I was there tonight as I have a season ticket but those who have to pay obviously see Saturday as more important?

We didn’t cover ourselves in glory last night with some of our ‘game management’ (looking at you, Dewhurst).

Wasn’t having a dig. Simply just meant not everyone can afford to go to every game.
