Not normal for the time of year?! Not sure where you live and, as mentioned previously, the last couple of weeks have actually been dryer than may be expected. We seemingly are alone given we were the only game called off last time.

In fairness the club are doing the right thing in having the inspection after the embarrassing communication on the previous occasions but the fact it’s necessary is shambolic.
I give up, I am only trying to offer up explanations for why the pitch is not drying as quick as people think it should, given my 10 years experience of working on the pitch and the fact I’ve completed the PGA greenkeeping courses. I’d be interested in knowing what qualifications others have other than just looking out the window and seeing it not raining and think that the pitch should now be dry.

Steve, we might as well give up now and let all the experts on here come and take charge/care it the pitch as they all seem to know they are doing.

Doesn’t really matter what WE think , does it? If the referees deem it’s unfit, that’s the end of it, however much expertise anyone professes to have. Most adverse comment is obviously incredulous frustration.

Would just like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers who help with the pitch and the contractor who does the work on the pitch . It is a very hard time for all of you and as we all know there is no easy fix to the pitch in the short term .
I am saying this as a Head greenkeeper on various golf courses for the past 40+ years so I know its not easy at times .

That’s the frustrating thing with the refs at this level, they seem not to listen to those that know what they’re talking about, the EFL officials were much better. I merely wanted to come on here and offer some insight into how complicated it is to manage a professional sports pitch and the environmentals around it. Sometimes it makes you wonder why you bother.

Nice post Simon

A few golf courses around South London Surrey have been closed, or holes closed off due to isolated water problems. And this is on courses that generally don't have problems.

Our pitch used to be so good.. Obviously there's a drainage issue now which basically means we could face a lot of p-ps. What has changed this year?

There are a few people on here that have already posted that they are involved in the maintenance of the pitch - so their comments are much more recent.

However this was posted over 4 years ago and references various budget considerations that impacted the pitch and mentions drainage.

In case the link gets removed search pitchcare dot com and then the article called “calling the shots at Aldershot town fc”

At least the club have realised it's beneficial to have an inspection but we are tinpot if this goes
I go to watch Ringwood fair bit as its my nearest club. You are right Josh it is a lovely pitch, maybe see you there sometime particularly if we go down as I won't be making the trip up to watch Aldershot that often.

I don't think anyone is getting at you two guys. Nor are they putting themselves forward as experts. I'm afraid the fact of the matter is that the Club as an entity has failed to keep the pitch maintained to the necessary standard and has frankly made a horse's ar$e of communicating with paying supporters over this fact and the consequent postponements. That's where the barbed comments are aimed.

Hoping that the sandy area has had some covers over it to keep most of the heavier rain off, I know it’s not ideal as the area needs to breath but by keeping the majority of the rain off will hopefully let the game go ahead. 🤞

Has the pitch got in a mess as a result of the blocked drain?

The rest of the anxt is understandable. :D

What would you do if it you were in charge?
(Excluding smart arse answers about getting a better pitch)

A
Do the stalling again and not announce something until mid-morning Saturday hoping the weather is kind?

B
Call it off tonight and save everyone the stress of option A and be kind to our opponents
