hows the pitch
Re: hows the pitch
I went to Ringwood in Tuesday night and the pitch was immaculate.
At least the club have realised it's beneficial to have an inspection but we are tinpot if this goes

Just because there’s been no rain doesn’t mean the pitch will be bone dry, for most of those two weeks it’s been very cold and overcast with little or no sun or breeze, both of which the pitch needs to dry. I played golf this morning for the first time in a few weeks and the fairways, which are in far better nick than our pitch, are still very, very soft. Depending how much rain we get this afternoon and overnight will make an early decision tricky I’m afraid.
But the weather has been 'normal' for the time of year and the Fylde game was the only one off in the whole NL League. How can that be explained?

Not normal for the time of year?! Not sure where you live and, as mentioned previously, the last couple of weeks have actually been dryer than may be expected. We seemingly are alone given we were the only game called off last time.Turnkey wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 1:58 pmIt’s not been normal for this time of year, I can’t remember the last winter we had the extended periods of cold, overcast damp weather. In fairness the club are doing the right thing in having the inspection after the embarrassing communication on the previous occasions but the fact it’s necessary is shambolic.

Our game was the only game to be called off at any decent sort of level last time around. If it’s called off again then there are serious problems.anonymouse wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 1:39 pm. . . . . . and there speaks the armchair expert from behind his keyboard.redandbluescb wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 1:34 pm We have had no rain for 2 weeks and it is dry from 1am tonight until kick off
if this game is postponed we will not play on it again this season.
When Fylde was off, I decided to take in the Maidenhead v Southend game; I more than half thought it would be called off taking into account the Shots game being called off with more or less the same amount of rainfall-including rain on the day of the match(and I know M'head had games called off in the past after prolonged heavy rainfall). No problems I could see at all. Game went ahead,fine. You can only conclude that the posts re the Rec's poor/failing drainage are correct-and assume the large sum needed to put it right is on the mark as well. That's no criticism of any of the groundstaff/volunteers ;if the pitch can't drain,there's little (I would imagine) that can be done to make it playable whilst rain persists. Yet another headache.

Re: hows the pitch
What's to stop a repeat of the Solihull game where a local official gave the pitch the thumbs up, only for the match day official to call the game off at the last minute? Sorry but unless its the ref who is doing the game tomorrow, there's still no guarantee the game is going ahead until about 1pm on Saturday afternoon.
SLABBBBERRR!!!!
Re: hows the pitch
The fact that the club are asking a local referee to inspect is either because;
A) Nobody at the club (and/or it’s contractors) is competent to assess whether the pitch is in a fit state even with the advice given to them by the Fylde referee still ringing in their ears.
B) They know damn well that the pitch remains unplayable but want to shift the blame to a poor unsuspecting local referee.

It's pathetic, we are a football club not a house building company!
What has happened to all that transfer money?

Obviously extra revenue streams are desperately needed. Maybe we could host events such as this….

How late is the inspection, my app says heavy rain throught till 2am ,personally I think the local ref will call it off saving the match ref a journey .Gone West wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 2:29 pm The fact that the club are asking a local referee to inspect is either because;

It might all come down to how many feet of heavy, yet imaginary snow falls today.
Re: hows the pitch
I give up, I am only trying to offer up explanations for why the pitch is not drying as quick as people think it should, given my 10 years experience of working on the pitch and the fact I’ve completed the PGA greenkeeping courses. I’d be interested in knowing what qualifications others have other than just looking out the window and seeing it not raining and think that the pitch should now be dry.Shots Fired wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 2:06 pm

Re: hows the pitch
Actually it's quite important that we have a football pitch to play on as we are supposed to be a football club at the end of the day. Any cutbacks we've made since last pre season to pitch maintenance is a false economy as the current condition of our playing surface is going to cost the Club thousands of £ in lost gate revenue, a fixture pile up like no other and quite possibly/more than likely our National League status. Who has overseen this fiasco I wonder
and Richard Walden puts the Shots 1-0 up against Man Utd

Re: hows the pitch
Let's all hope this match goes on for various reasons.
Stray Shots
Cash flow income for club
Fixture backlog
If the match isn't on tomorrow with the anticipated rain over the weekend and Monday, Tuesday will be very doubtful!
The new secretary seems to have had a bit of a "baptism of fire" in his first few months.

Rochdale, Halifax, Wealdstone and Maidenhead have all documented issues with their pitches this season.

So have you seen the pitch ? Is there standing water on it ? If there isn't what is the problem ?Turnkey wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 3:08 pmI give up, I am only trying to offer up explanations for why the pitch is not drying as quick as people think it should, given my 10 years experience of working on the pitch and the fact I’ve completed the PGA greenkeeping courses.
