Just had the phone call ,I managed to get a ticket .

I'd travelling from Faversham instead. The taxi ride probably isn't that much difference from Sittingbourne but Faversham will offer you better boozers.

I've never made it passed the street up from the station . Not stopped for a few years but there was a couple of micros on that street. Rochester also OK for a beer to .

If you exit the station at the back, you'll come out on a road called The Mall, literally a couple minutes will take you to The Elephant which is renown for its choice of Ales. A proper traditional pub with no TV.

Coming out from the front of the station, you have the Railway Inn, worth a swift one if short on time but otherwise explore further. I
If you're heading into town, follow Preston Street where you'll be greeted with two pubs either side after the Railway. The Limes is on the left, another Sheps pub, or Creekers Tap on the right which is more a micro pub, worth checking out as plenty on offer.
Further down you'll find Wetherspoons on the right and The Old Wine Vaults on the left. I'd personally swerve both of these in favour of Furlongs Ale house.

A Saturday market will be on where you can usually find someone from Mad Cat Brewery selling beer. That'll be handy for the jaunt back to Sittingbourne.
In the market you have the option of The Bear or Sun Inn, both Sheps pubs.

Other worthy options further afield, The Market Inn, or The Anchor. The Phoenix Tavern used to be a Timothy Taylor pub, although it has changed hands since I last visited, so I am not entirely sure if that is still the case. Although all 3 options are longer walk and probably not much different to what is on offer on the town.

It probably doesn't count seeing the Shots with 14 other faithful fellow Shots fans lose 5-0 at Workington yesteryear, a trip from hell that lasted from 11pm on Friday night in Aldershot to lunchtime on the Sunday. Still recovering!

You deserve a ticket for that, were you one of the ones who heard that the Workington match was off as they entered the outskirts of the town!

Not many teams ever lost heavily to perennial strugglers Workington but yes we were one of them Workington FC ......voted out of the FL in 1977, they have never been even remotely close to regaining their league status

I've got an old NOTW Football Annual from the mid 60's somewhere which had a third tier Workington beating Swansea Town (as they were) 7-0 at home and 6-1 away which puts our stuffing into perspective-or at least acts as proof it wasn't that bad ! Workington-I believe-are the lowest placed ex FL side that has never had to reform. All done within budget and genuine hopelessness. Sounds scary with us as we are...

Barrow, Carlisle and Workington. I don’t know if we played those three clubs in the same season but they must’ve been very tiring journeys for our players and of course them coming to us.
