The extra National League Cup games won't be helping it..... Maybe they should have negotiated that the Premier League help with some pitch maintenance costs and expertise.

Lots of extra home games with that new cup not helped. The prize money should cover cost of repairs though.

Not just the NL Cup though is it? Can't see the justification of Reading U/21s playing on it must be down to £ but that pitch is not going to help us get results
and Richard Walden puts the Shots 1-0 up against Man Utd

No idea, a Shots supporter who's an expert in the area told me on Twitter that he'd offered the club his help/advice and they didn't want to know.

Money I guess plus the weather lately. The biggest influence though it has been some years is Chelsea, their influence and money is I feel very missed.
Must admit two older chaps were patting a fork ( not digging it in) very very lightly next to the muddy goalmouth that the youngsters took the penalty at. Not sure what it did and why they were doing it next to the mud.

The pitch took a massive battering from the from the 30th nov - 7th dec when the Rec held 4 games in 7 days

2 games from reading u21 and 2 from us a national league cup vs saints and fa trophy v Wealdstone.

With the time of year as well it was never ideal to hold 4 games in a week.
That's when the big patches that we are seeing very obviously started to appear on that week of games.

But hey ho that's what we get when the club let's another club let their kids play on it and a poxy cup competition and now left with a shambles looking pitch.
Hope it was all worth it.

The state of the pitch today caught my attention straight away. Been a while since I’ve seen it look that bad.

Like has been said too many games on it in a short space of time, I’m not sure what was done this pre season pretty sure it wasn’t the normal taking off the top surface then reseed it as has been the case previously.

Worst I've seen it in years but 4 mickey mouse cup games on it and Reading nippers playing on it doesn't help .

Perhaps we should consider a new generation plastic pitch. Then we could accommodate Tom, Dick and Harry.
Let’s be realistic, with the present club set up, and inability to compete financially, we’re going nowhere fast, EFL a fading memory.

Actually, the present state of the pitch was perfectly normal up until the late 80’s. Even in the First division, star players were ploughing through mud from January onward.
Too much play on a saturated surface.

Totally agree with you ,our main objective these days seems to be try and stay in the National lge and try and have cup runs . So a plastic pitch seems to be a good idea .most our support claim that when we play on plastic the home team has the advantage, so let's level the playing field .
