Shots v Tamworth matchday thread
Re: Shots v Tamworth matchday thread
If you think that was a terrific performance then good for you.
They gave up the midfield from minute one, and we couldn't beat a bunch of part time cloggers

That was an entertaining match and you can’t fault the players’ effort. Quality in the middle and final third let us down but when was the last time we scored from two corners.
Hargreaves huffed and puffed and ran around a lot, Theo had a couple of good moments but a LOT of misplaced passes and shouting at everyone. Barrett kept going for glory when there were much better options and AJ seemed slow. Could Dewhurst have done better with their second?
New defender looked solid and classy. Deserved his goal!
We did well to keep our heads with their dark arts but the ref - who had a good game otherwise - seemed weak when it came to this.
We need to turn these draws into wins.

Thank you for adding to my points about players not doing their jobs....Silasgoldeen wrote:the mistake there was AJ giving them a throw there. Dewhurst made some very good saves late on to prevent disaster, thought Armitage was outstanding and Woodhouse obviously very good winning balls in their box. Having two proper defenders at the back is night and day compared to what we've been seeing to this point, it's like a different team. Olly Scott good, too. Theo's best game for ages as well, played with his head up.
The only challenge I'd have is at wing back. I don't think AJ is fast or athletic enough to be a modern wing back and Tyler kept cutting in when their right back was there for the taking. So Ryan Jones on the left and Frost on the right might have been good. Otherwise can't fault anyone today, terrific performance.

there's a difference between couldn't and didn't. Sometimes it doesn't go your way but keep doing the right things and results will come.
Re: Shots v Tamworth matchday thread
Reckon if Jones and Stuttle came on earlier we would have won

We've played 28 games and we're 18th perhaps by now manager, coaches and players should be doing the "right things" ?Silasgoldeen wrote:there's a difference between couldn't and didn't. Sometimes it doesn't go your way but keep doing the right things and results will come.

If we are going to play Frost wide then get him on the right. If Ellison is fit then get Olly on the Left or play Ryan Jones, or even get Jenkins back into the 3. Woodhouse is a clear left footer so could do the LCB job. Aaron Jones is too slow on the ball as is Theo, but it wasn’t Theo’s worst game.
Despite conceding two goals it wasn’t our worst display defensively, two lapses of leaving their no.9 unmarked was costly. But on the other hand it makes a change scoring from corners, we had enough of them.
I saw Oldham fans complain of our gamesmanship last week, can’t comment on that but surely wasn’t as bad as Tamworth’s today.
On the whole we were the better team in my opinion, could have won but like many of the 43% of draws this season we could have easily lost as well. But these draws are killing us, really got to start turning 1 into 3.

Exactly this ... moving Frost to the right and bringing Jones on down the left would have provided more threat down the flanks, we just needed to get behind them more often. With AJ seemingly reluctant to take players on down the right it makes it easier for teams to defend against us. Playing sideways across the pitch when they were just sitting behind the ball becomes frustrating to watch. We had the tools to beat them but alas it wasn't to be, we had the chances probably the best one fell to JB just after our second goal but he shot wide when he probably should have scored. Great game to watch however one of most entertaining I've seen at the EBB this season. Woodhouse was superb one goal and an assist in his first home game he's going to be an asset for us going forwards. You certainly cannot fault the effort of those players in red and blue this afternoon. Playing like this I feel sure that more victories are on the horizon.Silasgoldeen wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:39 pm thought everyone did well today. Perhaps we should have played 5-0-5!CH wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:38 pmTamworth didn't use the midfield all day, so yesSilasgoldeen wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:36 pmIf you play 2 up you lose a man behind where the game's won or lost. Who are you taking off, Barrett? Henry?
Bypass the midfield

Can’t comment on today, as I wasn’t there due to a family event. Looking at the table I think including us there are about 6 x teams (excluding Boston and Ebbsfleet for whom I think the bell has tolled) for whom matches are also running out.redblueuptoyou wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:49 pmHow much longer though? No idea why their 9 decided to celebrate his goals in front of the Eastbank. Still think it’s very odd when you choose not to join your own supporters!
Eastbank poor again today. Too much focus on chanting about the chairman instead of backing the players, and it’s becoming boring!
Not enjoying the home matchday experience at the moment.
