Alex again your right.
Feel you may be called negative for speaking the truth.
I totally agree . If that was 10 yards away off the pitch it would probably lead to criminal charges
When we played Southend at home back in our all to brief 5 year tenure in the FL our centre half, Darren Jones, thumped one of their players during a brief coming-together. This happened off the pitch next to the North Stand wall and the thump was worse than Widderington’s forearm assault on the Dagenham player. I don’t recall as much anger and bitterness towards Jones as there is towards Widderington. Yes, there were disapproving comments but again, I don’t recall there being calls for his contract to be terminated that evening.
Before anyone thinks that I’m trying to defend Widderington, I’m 100% not, he fully deserved his red card and ban (as did Jones) but it does appear to come down to whether supporters like a player or not.
Yes, that does naturally come into it.

Darren Jones was a decent no-nonsense CB and could be forgiven for doing something stupid, once.

Not only is Theo an awful footballer for NL level, the stupidity at Dagenham is just one of many things he has done wrong.
He wouldn’t even walk into the Alton central midfield!
If his dad wasn’t manager he’d be playing Sunday morning park football.

The great game against Southend. Was that the same one that the idiot referee missed a Southend player kicking the ball straight into a fans face in the North Stand...was it the same incident ?
Alex your again right, Jones was a player
Birdman you are defending the " faith" that's your choice.

I am not “defending the faith”. The comparison I was making was that the after-match comments when DJ thumped an opponent were nowhere near as critical as when TW did similar. Good player, yeah, ok, it’s tolerable; bad player, get rid immediately.

Well you can say as you like your choice, I feel others can draw their own conclusions.

Now did the fan get the ball in the face before or after the fore arm ? ( just before or just after)

Who was the quality ref who totally missed it ?

Yes it was kicked deliberately with venom and was it a young fan that got it full on the face .

The same Darren Jones who'd previously served a prison sentence for assault in 2005

Your right LBS......We also had the lad I think he was from West Ham or Oxford he liked to use his belt. Not for holding his trousers up.
They done their time.
Jones could play football as well as being a thug. Widdrington, as Alex points out is a good quality Sunday league player. I agree with Alex's opinion.

No josh Payne was our player at the time . He according to club hadn't told them of the court case. We even dismissed him on a match day as he'd been jailed .

I reckon you summed up the issue with the manager's son in one phrase "if the player isn't extremely good, it's a pointless distraction". Harry Redknapp was asked once if he had ever been tempted to sign his England-international son Jamie and said "there's always enough problems for a manager without having your own boy at the club".
Jamie played under Arry at Southampton
The interview came in Arry's West Ham days and to be fair when Jamie did play under him it turned out he had been right all along ...
