Is there a stadium in Tongham?

So then, (process of elimination) if Deane’s in tomorrow and I see him then I’ll speak to him.

Stock Car stadium in Oxenden Road in Tongham vanished in the early 1990s. Was it not called “The Aldershot Stadium” at one time? There is a motor racing circuit near Alton that is run by the “Tongham Motor Club” so I don’t know if there is a connection?

Tongham Recreation Ground in Poyle Road is the home of Tongham FC, but it isn’t a “Stadium” unfortunately!

Indeed it did, Tim. I think that the land it occupied became part of the A331 (Blackwater Valley Relief Road) somehow or other.

The A331 was constructed in 1990s, so that would tie in with the closure date. I used to go to Tongham quite a lot with my Father from the late 1960s through to the early 1980s to a kennel in Grange Road (as well as passing through en route to other places) so would sometimes drive past the stadium, but I don’t think we ever went there.

I see a lot more of Tongham again now, as my Daughter moved there in a few years back, but all traces of the stadium have long gone.

Throughout the 50’s it was “the Aldershot Shots” speedway racing (motorbikes) then Spedeworth took it over for the Stock car racing etc.
