For instance I was at the game V Southend at Roots Hall Tuesday 23rd October 2013. I had heard on the way to the match that the manager was going that evening DH having got 9 points from the opening 14 games. Danny Hylton scored in the opening minute and Sonny Bradley scored very late on for a Shots 2-1 win. The next day I was awaiting the news that the manager had gone but it never came. I spoke about a year later to the man who was meant to dismiss the manager and questioned what actually happened and was told " I didn't feel comfortable sacking the manager after an away win". The writing was on the wall for Dean after our capitulation at Torquay earlier in the month, but it just goes to show there are many reasons for not sacking or why a manager wasn't sacked at a given time.

Re: Caretaker Manager (Again)
Interesting reading briefly through this history thread when a few mins earlier a vid on YouTube appeared on my feed of the fans forum from Nov 13. A rather heated forum with Scott talking about difficult circumstances with low budget competing with massive budgets .
Some discussion about offers made to the previous chairmen re buy outs and the politics etc. seems things have come full circle. We're back to wear we started.. And yes ,we definitely would've stayed up in the league if the Holdsworth experiment had ended pronto. Il bet all my houses in that one.

It's normal policy at my work place for someone who has been seriousley ill to ease back into full time.redblueuptoyou wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 10:12 pm I’m still trying to get my head around a manager on sick leave showing up for 15 minutes of work.
We don't know how much time he has put in during the week, Tuesday night was probably more symbolic than anything else.

Re: Caretaker Manager (Again)
He's been in the stands for the Woking, Sutton and Chertsey games at least so its not as if he just turned up on Tuesday night and got involved. I imagine he's also been turning up at training from time-to-time and has probably been picking the team in the last few games too. I suspect he's leaving the 'official' return until he's ready to go full-time and/or we have a win to celebrate.Cph.shots wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 9:08 amIt's normal policy at my work place for someone who has been seriousley ill to ease back into full time.redblueuptoyou wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 10:12 pm I’m still trying to get my head around a manager on sick leave showing up for 15 minutes of work.

Personally I thought his antics on Tuesday were poor form. Getting into arguments with fans in the stand and then completely undermining Hugo and Richard in their roles as caretaker managers in the eyes of the players is not the way to go when our backs are to the wall like this.

I was equally disappointed at the Eastbank. I was stood with a neutral who couldn't believe that Aldershot fans were singing anti chairman rhetoric at a time we needed a goal. Didn't hear those chants last season.
As a Shots fan of over 30 years now I've become accustomed to failure, apathy and disappointment. Nothing new about this season - it just makes the very rare highs that much sweeter.
Yes we are *****, yes the on-pitch decision making is baffling, yes I wish we were richer, had better players and were more successful. But we aren't and we won't be unless some absolute headcase millionaire wants to give up all their time for free and then blow all their money on an insolvent football club. If not we are stuck with what we've got and we'll need the odd bit of luck and good fortune like we had last season. Singing craps Spurs copycat songs about our chairman or whining on a message board won't change anything.
Don't pretend it's ever been any different. We are pretty much in the same position now as 1927 when my Great Grandfather started watching - the lower reaches of the pyramid. We've never had a vision and we've never had serious ambition. No chairman or board has ever delivered a solid foundation for the long term success. That's not a dig - I appreciate it's difficult, which is why nobody has ever mastered it. The only success was either in a micky mouse league, was built on good fortune and/or shaky foundations where we massively overspent and nearly killed the club.
To say you won't go because you don't like this player or that player is fine but for me not what supporting a football club is about. Stupid or not, it's in the blood.
See you at Oldham.

A terrific post Bear- as you say at Aldershot we are stuck with what we`ve got. In truth Aldershot were hardly flush when your Great Grandad was attending in 1927. It is true I would say that weve never had truly serious ambition.Bear wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 4:11 pm I was equally disappointed at the Eastbank. The old AFC Supporters club gave very generous donations throughout the 50s, 60s, 70s to help aid the Football Club. I look at a club like Bromley and wonder how well they done to secure FL status.
I seldom post nowdays as I feel those that hold power at ATFC have an agenda to suit their own needs. Fair play to you travelling to Oldham, which quite possibly will be more in hope than expectation

Re: Caretaker Manager (Again)
I have a recollection of an interview that a tv company had with their owner prior to a televised FA Cup match at Bromley a couple of years ago. I think that the owner was a local guy who wasn’t short of a bob or two and he’d put in place money making projects (ie 3G/4G pitches) that helped finance the club as well as involvement with the community. Looking at their ground and surrounding area on google earth they appear to have room to expand.shotsboy66 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 5:53 pmA terrific post Bear- as you say at Aldershot we are stuck with what we`ve got. Shots boy...great post. Your last paragraph ticks every box in my opinioin.
Wrexham were going no where....who knows one day.
Modern football has changed as the followers have since 1970...otherwise you just drift down the lazy river getting no where.

Re: Caretaker Manager (Again)
Holdsworth should have gone in October and we had some ridiculous record of not scoring on a Saturday for 3 months. This was after a season of missing out on the play offs and a money spinning cup run. ( Sounds familiar!)
We are currently in a run of 2 wins in 20 which suggests it's time for a change and the blatant nepotism and favouritism means that it is time for a change. He isn't getting the best out of his squad.

Same timed substitutions.
Same questions and answers in our interviews.
Occasionally a different goalie.

To Quote you Alex try something different, do a Quinton and confront the management team instead of keep coming up with the same old rhetoric
