Well Cph, I wouldn’t call it a PR triumph exactly, and the point is re-iterated for context.

Anyway, as said, it is time to focus, move on and think of Tuesday.

It's funny you say it's time to move on but restate a point you posted previously.
I was replying to Annonymos and commenting on the subject for the first time.
Personally, I think "disaster" is wildly exaggerated as is the reaction by many but I accept that I appear to be in a minority and having said my piece, will also move on.
I agree that in isolation it shouldn't be perceived as a 'disaster' but I think the issue for many is that it's just another example of poor management and communication from the club. There's been an accumulation of baffling decisions both on and off the pitch which are rightly making supporters worried about the leadership of the club.

It was messy and so far there’s been no reactive (public) response to apologise. I think most Shots fans would even appreciate a Priti Patel-style ‘I’m sorry YOU thought we were in the wrong’ message to justify their optimism/arrogance.

But still, this is a good time to draw a line and hope that everyone has made some learnings from this.

I don't think "correctly" is the right word in matters of opinion. But neither is "plonker". Let's just say the referee was doing the job to the best of his ability

I bet referee’s love calling off games having travelled so many miles in the first place

Only one opinion mattered on Saturday and that ultimately is the refs . Imagine in front of the South Stand if a Shots player had fallen awkwardly and broken a leg . The outcry on here would be several pages long that the ref hadn't called it off . He made the right decision Saturday.

Always has seemed a bit crazy to me that it's just down to one Person and one person only who decides if the game is on or off.
not sure the answer, but somehow if three people were involved then the majority wins either way.....just a passing thought , i have a few during the day !

That's a good idea. Maybe this is kind of how it works anyway and still falls foul of circumstances. But I can imagine how a three person call on Friday with the ref, the home team and the away team would at least allow for more open discussion and even a sense of working on the problem together, which it sounds like we got before Chertsey but not on Saturday.

I mentioned all this to my ref friend and one thing he said was that if all the other games in the division are off then you have to probably set your priors towards that, too, whereas we were a lot more positive and assumed we'd be an exception. But he said the ref was probably of completely different perspective, leaving home expecting the game not to go ahead before he'd seen the pitch, and therefore needing to be convinced otherwise by a perfect pitch, which he didn't find when he got here.

We must surely assume that the pitch in front of the South stand was “firmer” than the rest of the playing area, if not downright rock hard. Not right or fair to expect elite athletes ( oh yes they are, by definition).. to perform on it, totally disregarding the insurance implications in the event of an injury. We all know how compensation cases play out.
Anyway, refs decision, thankfully ,not that of a small delegation of “ experts”..

I didn't say it was a triumph either so don't really see your point?

Barrett is an elite athlete?

I have heard it all now

And before you have a go at me, Barrett is worth the admission money alone to watch, he has skill in bucket loads, just not the fitness.

And the ref may have been held liable, when I did my referees course in the late 90’s we advised to get private insurance in case we were sued by a player if he injured himself on a pitch that we had considered safe.
