Why is it that the ones who waffle on for what seems like days in the hope you'll be taken in always get it wrong..?

Louis Fell the Club Secretary who on LinkedIn claims to be a "Dynamic and results-driven Marketing & Communications Manager with a wealth of experience…" has posted this tweet on his Twitter/X page regarding the late postponement.

You can't hold Louis responsible for yesterdays debacle. He's done his job and communicated based on information received by others within the club.
The fact the original tweet stated part of the pitch was "STILL FROZEN" suggests it was already frozen earlier in the day. Given that is the case, I can only assume the actual decision makers within the club were confident of it thawing once the covers were removed. Even so, given the pitch was still frozen it was daft to communicate that no inspection would be required and the game would definitely be going ahead. But this is NOT the fault of Louis.
However, this is a rather (another) embarrassing episode for our club following so soon after the whole Paget Brown saga.

I agree, it's not down to Louis. There should have been a rider, that whilst confident it would go ahead the final decision will rest with the match referee.Triggers Broom wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 11:59 amYou can't hold Louis responsible for yesterdays debacle. You are correct, its not all down to Louis, I must take some of the blame as well.WTF wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 12:12 pmI agree, it's not down to Louis. All during the week we all look at different weather reports/apps to look at the up an coming weather all of which give differing opinions.
On wednesday with consultation with the contractors the decision was made to cover the pitch as a precaution, as, mentioned somewhere else the pitch was inspected and deemed playable. On saturday when we started taking the covers off the pitch was in a good condition far better than the previous week against Chertsey, I had a telephone conversation with a previous groundsman and discussed the pitch in general. We then decided to leave the covers on longer in front of the south stand as we know this is the problem area. All the methods that we used last week just did not work this week so with temperatures going lower that the predicted temperatures we were given it was more of an up hill struggle but still felt confident we could get the pitch playable.
The referee from what I gather has a bit of history had a totally different attitude to the Chertsey game.
After calming down and being disappointed the same as everyone else, and reading all the messages on here and other social media I just felt it was the right time to reply.
Again I offer my apology for what happened, but at the end of the day we are human and we make mistakes.
Ps. a big thankyou to all the volunteers who gave us hand removing the covers.

Fair enough, good post and let’s move on to Tuesday for the visit of Braintree!anonymouse wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 8:39 pmYou are correct, its not all down to Louis, I must take some of the blame as well.WTF wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 12:12 pmI agree, it's not down to Louis. Thank you for coming on here and posting an explanation. It sounds like a fussy referee scuppered things and maybe if we'd had the previous week's ref it would have gone ahead?anonymouse wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 8:39 pmYou are correct, its not all down to Louis, I must take some of the blame as well.WTF wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 12:12 pmI agree, it's not down to Louis. I don't think you need to apologise, you can't be held responsible for the referee being a plonker

Agreed - no need for you to apologise whatsoever. Poor communication from the club with no expectation management is the only issue here. It’s interesting that they’ve been completely silent on social media since…

It's good to hear it from your side and from what I remember, that's pretty much the same as Richard Petty stated, certainly no reason for you or any of the helpers to apologise.anonymouse wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 8:39 pmYou are correct, its not all down to Louis, I must take some of the blame as well.WTF wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 12:12 pmI agree, it's not down to Louis. With hindsight, the club could maybe have been a bit more cautious with their statements but the game was cancelled due to extreme cold and the referee deeming it to be unsafe to play on.
The club and volunteers had done everything within their power to get the game on.

PR disaster for the club as I said on another thread, and it’s a shame the effect it has had on a couple of the Shotweb posters (who I hope re-consider), but it is time to move on and Tuesday night is now the important thing.
Re: Aldershot Town P-P Solihull Moors - Saturday 11th January 2025 (Match POSTPONED)
It's funny you say it's time to move on but restate a point you posted previously.
I was replying to Annonymos and commenting on the subject for the first time.
Personally, I think "disaster" is wildly exaggerated as is the reaction by many but I accept that I appear to be in a minority and having said my piece, will also move on.
