Re: Time to go from Shotsweb, this time forever
Well said , mate. I've read some tripe this weekend but that is right up there at the top.
Re: Time to go from Shotsweb, this time forever
I am bitterly disappointed that two long term posters have felt the need to leave this board but I understand their feelings.
A few others have gone very quiet.
We are losing voices of reason, keen supporters of the club in every sense of the word.
Both made an effort to obtain information directly from the club and not just speculate as many on here do but despite doing that and passing on information to the rest of us, they were put down by many, some in particular just don't seem interested in listening to reason as it doesn't fit their agenda.
Both were always polite and civil.
I never met either of them but hope I get chance to sometime in the future.
Quite a few on here only seem to be interested in finding fault with the club and the overall tone has deteriorated drastically.
Im sure the gloaters will enjoy the lack of reasoned comments and opinions actually backed by facts...... anyone remember those?
Oh well gloat away.......

At the beginning of 2020 I started a thread titled ‘Shotsweb behaviour’, which is still in the ‘Announcements’ section. From the comments that were posted it appeared to be generally well received and for a while we all ‘played nicely’. Covid reared its ugly head in March but during that period we seemed to get on ok. When the Covid restrictions were relaxed it seemed to me that Shotsweb started going ‘downhill’ again and it seems to have carried on in that direction, possibly reflecting the way that the world of social media has gone. Reasonable debate although still happening does at times turn into attacking other points of view that ‘you’ disagree with. We have lost members who have just walked away or have asked to be removed from Shotsweb due to the direction that Shotsweb has taken which to me is a pity.

Forgive me if I have read this wrong Mr Key, but this bit is very subtle.. Good, but subtleTurnkey wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:45 pmI was out in Farnborough about 2am picking up a customer and it was -7, when I went out in Basingstoke at 10am it was still -3. Having experience of working on the pitch I had a pretty good idea of the situation and to say I was surprised by the clubs comms would be an understatement.Les Briley wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:41 pmI don't know where you live, but is was -7 overnight in Aldershot & probably hovering around freezing at midday so there was always possibility that the game wouldn't go ahead.
In my humble opinion..Just saying

There’s only one man who needs to grow up when it comes to Twitter/X and that’s the owner who changes the algorithm to reflect his political views/agenda.

However, I think that so many perceived issues on here are driven by what has happened to the club in the last 10-12 x years. It is not right (or do I dare say wrong?) but people express their frustration in different ways, perhaps with justification; perhaps not.
It isn’t helpful or maybe right (whatever that might be anyway), but is perhaps understandable.

Re: Time to go from Shotsweb, this time forever
I regularly take breaks from this forum when the quality of dialogue disintegrates. It doesn't stress me out thankfully, but I do find it to be banal and pointless to log in when the usual suspects start getting overly vocal.
There are far too many coming on here needlessly voicing toxic opinions or getting stupid when anyone disagrees with them. I don't envy the job of the moderators, but I do feel it's time to tighten up on behaviours or update the rules if ShotsWeb is to retain any real value for genuine fans.
I hope Richard returns at some point, as he's 100% one of the most genuine and sensible people to post here. And likewise I hope the muppets (you know who you are) do the right thing and clear off. The grotesque Mr Musk can provide a more suitable platform for you lot.

Sorry, your post makes no sense. Can you please elaborate or gives us some context?lowerbourneshot wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 7:53 amSorry I see no bullying . The boards has to be right all the time member who uses a thousand words when 50 will do called it wrong ,got found out got some criticism and flounced simple as . HE was the one that kept proclaiming pitch side the game would be on he was the one that said temperatures wouldn't drop that low ,he waa the one in the first post that said there would be very little frost on the pitch as the covers would do the job . I actually think the retort at 54 was out of line. I have no gripe with Richard Petty but this is how I see it . Seems to me some people on he can get away with comments on here and some can't.

It's a pity to lose posters such as Richard, who (as far as I've seen and I don't read everything on here) always conducted himself politely and knowledgably.
It's a shame that some see it as zero sum game (ie you post all the time or never) as, similarly to Chimpster, I pop in and out depending on the mood of the board (and myself). Sometimes it can be really great, for example sharing our experiences of reacting to Ollie Scott's winner at Stockport last year and it's a bit sad that those who have decided to leave will miss out on that kind of thing.
On the only other message board that I frequent (for my adopted Aussie rules team) they have a filter that changes certain words into other ones. Most of them are swear words, but maybe we could have a version of this to soften the edges of shotsweb, for example:
Happy Clappers > Optimists
Moaners/Doom mongers > Pessimists
'Anyone who knows anything about football knows that ...' > 'I may be wrong, but in my personal opinion ...'

Yep, I think alot of the frustration on this board stems from a range of frustrations, including , the lack of any real on field progress in the last 10 years, despite our great support (particularly away); the poor communications from the club on a range of matters ; the impression from the bland after match interviews that the Management is oblivious to the the impending relegation fight; the lack of any communication on the progress of the ground development; the sad reality that all the extra revenue earned last season appears to have been taken up already etc etcPreston Shot wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 7:32 am Why were all on a roll how is the ground redevelopment coming along
