Time to go from Shotsweb, this time forever
Re: Time to go from Shotsweb, this time forever
I remember those games too and was happy to shrug them of as one of those things. What I don’t remember was travelling because either club made smug social media posts encouraging people to come and there was no danger of the game being off.Les Briley wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:16 pmExactly mate, remember getting to Morecambe only to be told the games off, got as far as Scotch corner when the Blyth Spartans game got called off,....it happensPeter macdonald wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:06 pm I understand Solihull’s annoyance but I recall travelling up to Scarborough in December 1989 only to find out when we arrived at the ground that the game was called off, I remember seeing Dale Banton heading back towards the coach, was very annoying but we then purchased a radio and a few cans and enjoyed our journey back home!

If 'rip into' one another is life then I was brought up wrong. Consideration for others should be everyones byword and the fact you think otherwise reflects badly on yourself and others who think it is. By all means debate a point if you believe otherwise but it can and should be done politely.

I don't know where you live, but is was -7 overnight in Aldershot & probably hovering around freezing at midday so there was always possibility that the game wouldn't go ahead.Turnkey wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:36 pmI remember those games too and was happy to shrug them of as one of those things. I was out in Farnborough about 2am picking up a customer and it was -7, when I went out in Basingstoke at 10am it was still -3. Having experience of working on the pitch I had a pretty good idea of the situation and to say I was surprised by the clubs comms would be an understatement.Les Briley wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:41 pmI don't know where you live, but is was -7 overnight in Aldershot & probably hovering around freezing at midday so there was always possibility that the game wouldn't go ahead.Turnkey wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:36 pmI remember those games too and was happy to shrug them of as one of those things. They probably shouldn't have been so optimistic in hindsight,Doubt if they will be next timeTurnkey wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:45 pmI was out in Farnborough about 2am picking up a customer and it was -7, when I went out in Basingstoke at 10am it was still -3. That's a good sign, Les. You are starting to reverse out of wind-up mode. Welcome to my world.Les Briley wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:49 pmThey probably shouldn't have been so optimistic in hindsight,Doubt if they will be next timeTurnkey wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:45 pmI was out in Farnborough about 2am picking up a customer and it was -7, when I went out in Basingstoke at 10am it was still -3. I would like to point out to anyone accusing Richard of always taking the official club line that he certainly did come off the fence on the issue of Theo Widdrington's selection, and agreed with most of us that it was a bad idea for a manager to have his son as captain.
Re: Time to go from Shotsweb, this time forever
Richard did tend to side with the club, though as I said earlier he had the football team at his heart.

Richard is a nice man and he’ll be back
Re: Time to go from Shotsweb, this time forever
I can understand Richard’s feelings on this, Im considering leaving Twitter X after many years, similar problem although it’s much worse. A cess pit and full of anonymous accounts that should all be closed down IMHO
Re: Time to go from Shotsweb, this time forever
Agreed.
I think ATFC should close its Xitter (the X is pronounced 'sh') account as the site is just a manipulative tool frequented by right leaning conspiratorial mud slingers. Its an absolute mire of hatred and I cannot understand why Shahid Azeem has not got the club the hell out of it.
For the time being the clubs instant updates could easily be maintained by its FB & Instagram accounts. However, social media platforms only have a limited lifespan as eventually they all descend into cesspits of hate. That process is just about to start with FB/Instagram, so ATFC needs to get ahead of the game by opening accounts on all the current emerging social media hubs (Bluesky, Mastodon etc) so its able to ditch FB/Instagram when they turn to *****.
Re: Time to go from Shotsweb, this time forever
Ian Rust so you want a football club to leave a social media platform because of your own political views?
Do what Ianshots might do and just leave the site and get your clubs info somewhere else.
Grow up.

They already have a Bluesky account but don’t use it.Ian Rust wrote:Agreed.

As a Right Leaning person I quite like Twitter….I probably should have said ‘far right’

But Blyth was called off around midday ,we still had time to get to Coventry v Ipswich. Scotch to Cov is nearly 3 hours by car .Les Briley wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:16 pmExactly mate, remember getting to Morecambe only to be told the games off, got as far as Scotch corner when the Blyth Spartans game got called off,....it happensPeter macdonald wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:06 pm I understand Solihull’s annoyance but I recall travelling up to Scarborough in December 1989 only to find out when we arrived at the ground that the game was called off, I remember seeing Dale Banton heading back towards the coach, was very annoying but we then purchased a radio and a few cans and enjoyed our journey back home!

I was one of those who flew to Blyth and hearing it was called off at Whitley Bay decided to head for Sunderland before that was called off so we spent the day drinking in Newcastle.
