I drove 2hr15m down from Cambridgeshire for today's game. If I had been informed of an inspection then I would have stopped halfway and checked whether the game was still going ahead.

It was arrogant of the club not to announce an inspection when the game was clearly in doubt, and this is compounded by the tweet they sent praising the condition of the pitch.

Another avoidable error.

Some of us with long memories will have been feeling uneasy about the club’s blasé attitude. Those who ignore history are doomed to relive it.

The new development will take account of the South Stand shadow issue. Has the construction begun as scheduled?

Totally agree the club has mismanaged this badly, yesterday's announcement seemed out of sync with the forecast and temperatures this morning.

The pitch is only as good as the worst part and it was obvious from the picture used there was still an issue. It's almost as if they've chosen to take the picture of the pitch from the furthest point possible away from the south stand.

They deserve the criticism they get for the over confident announcements, and you can add 1 to the wasted journeys list as I was outside the turnstiles when I heard the news. Only 25 mile round trip for me so not a major issue, but frustrating nonetheless and feeling for solihull fans and those shots fans with longer journeys this afternoon

Poor from us.

.....perhaps you should use your own mind at times, it was -7 last night so today's game was always in doubt, anyway having a few pints in good company, cheers 🍻
I’m with Old Bob. It wasn’t in any doubt at all if you were to believe the messages from the club and indeed the messages from the volunteers this morning!
What about the colder temperatures the expected then ?, you'll never beat the weather.
Les, at 11.25am the club tweeted a totally unambiguous message about the game being on, how green the pitch was etc. I bought my tickets at 12.15pm having left it late given the weather as a result. This is entirely on the club and the poor communication which simply can’t be defended.

.....but it was the Referee who called it off, always a possibility.

I was in a similar position to Shots Fired but couldn’t make it in the end. Luckily, it turns out.

What a mess this has been. Feel sorry for Solihull’s team and especially the fans. It’s not the nicest of journeys at the best of times!

I don’t think the club ever said 100% the match was going ahead but there was a bullish confidence (arrogance?) in the messaging that indicated it would. Hopefully people can get their refunds asap.

My assumption, given how positive everyone seemed, is that the ref had tougher standards than expected but I could be wrong. Also, and I'm just standing here now, despite the clear skies, the sun hasn't exactly burst out this afternoon so perhaps it didn't thaw as they had hoped.
There was never any suggestion that the ground staff were "hoping" for a thaw. We were told that the pitch was playable and the game was in no danger, full stop.

I was responding to SteveyAsp’s comment by highlighting that bit from yesterday’s announcement.
Birdman, yep, I know you were

I was criticising the club, because they called someone in yesterday instead of match day
I’ve added another sentence to my previous reply to you.

That's the overnight temperature you are referring to, right? So why were we told the match was on this morning?

Are you being deliberately obtuse?

I would guess that our pitch and groundsman felt the pitch playable along with maybe our coaches. HOWEVER the Referee in question said no, game off, not the Club.

Always a frustrating occurrence (happened to me plenty of times) when fans travelling distances involved. For the more local fans would think they are less likely to be impacted much more than a Doh !!!

I might be imagining this but not that many moons ago didn't we call a game off early, yet come match day/time pitch perfectly playable? That seemed to spark fury as well on ShotsWeb.

I blame Global Warming
