That would certainly help but I think that ship has well and truly sailed.lowerbourneshot wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 3:30 pmThe Fa want 25% of coaches to be bame fair enough . It’s the pinnacle job in English football and I just think it sends the wrong message to young English coaches. Look how much money has been invested in St. George’s Park as well.Peter macdonald wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 8:17 am
Probably because Eddie is to English for some people, unfortunately in this country we seem to be obsessed with catering for foreign people over our own which is totally wrong in my opinion, that will no doubt upset a few on here
I doubt if Germany would ever appoint a non German to be their National team Manager.

You quite often hear how much better football is these days with all the foreign players involved but for me it was just as good in the 80’s when it would have been 95% British players, too much nonsense being spouted I’m afraid!

I saw Jamie Carragher moaning about Everton being a throwback to a ‘90s team the other day.Peter macdonald wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 3:45 pm You quite often hear how much better football is these days with all the foreign players involved but for me it was just as good in the 80’s when it would have been 95% British players, too much nonsense being spouted I’m afraid!
When teams would play two strikers, wingers and attacked with pace? We had maverick, talented characters like Cantona, Gazza and then Duncan Ferguson beating the living daylights out of anyone who dare breathed near him?
Bring that era back!

Well put it this way English clubs dominated Europe for a good decade before the ban on English sides came into force
Re: Dyche.gone
I think thats just bog standard pundit cliche speak. Does Carragher know that Everton were a top class title/European CWC winning side in the 80's/90's ? Its the same way they labelled any pass Wimbledon or Sheff Utd did as "Long ball" but when Liverpool/Man U etc made EXACTLY the same sort of pass it suddenly became "A brilliant through ball that split the opponants defence" Now only foreign managers have any sort of tactical genuis.redblueuptoyou wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 4:25 pmI saw Jamie Carragher moaning about Everton being a throwback to a ‘90s team the other day.Peter macdonald wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 3:45 pm You quite often hear how much better football is these days with all the foreign players involved but for me it was just as good in the 80’s when it would have been 95% British players, too much nonsense being spouted I’m afraid!

Maybe its just down to foreign managers handling foreign players with the clubs franchise owners buying anyone and everyone and expecting a wonderful team to somehow emerge out of the chaos. Still-that's what the TV demands in the PL sports franchise league and they've set up the narrative to go with it. (And for Carraghers information-Everton have been a car crash ever since their foreign owner bought anyone and everyone thinking the manager could sort it out. Ancelotti failed/walked away-surely he was the genius required ?)

Totally agree

I was there....Alex McGregor got our goal...was in the corner pen. Typical Scousers threw from the seats on our right from up high a very large Metal ball bearing...luckily as there was plenty of gaps it did not hit anyone....Typical Scousers.always the victims )

I was there too. We lived in North Wales at the time, so it wasn't too far away. Some sort of costume? That's intriguing, Drew. I guess most people wear some sort of costume in public unless they want to get arrested (I certainly do.)drewshotsfan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 6:46 pmI was there too. And Old Bob, so do I. I'm often seen parading around Portsmouth docks in a nurses uniform to keep the Matelots happy. Now, that's what I call dedication for someone that was in the RAF. Anyone else remember Crawley sending some ladies in tight tracksuits into the crowd to promote a gentleman’s club?

Re: Dyche.gone
Everton were not a top class team in the 90s and if it wasn't for some dodgy keeping would have got relegated. Top flight football in the 90s was rubbish and uncompetitive

Re: Dyche.gone
Jamie Carragher moaning about about Everton is like Harold Shipman complaining about death rates in the NHS. He wasn't exactly a cultured defender and played in many sides with wingers and 2 up top.redblueuptoyou wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 4:25 pm

I agree, those 4-4-2 days were great. Open games where both sides tried to go for it. Now says most teams look too scared to lose and play as such.
