Me too. He was never likely to take them forward.

Even more astonishing is there’s talk of Moyes going back there!

Eddie Howe is an excellent Manager and is good at developing players, I find it staggering that he wasn’t even asked about the England job and would have been my choice rather than Thomas Tuchel.
Probably because Eddie is to English for some people, unfortunately in this country we seem to be obsessed with catering for foreign people over our own which is totally wrong in my opinion, that will no doubt upset a few on here
Absolutely spot on, for me the English National team Manager’s job should always be an Englishman. It’s the pinnacle job in English football and I just think it sends the wrong message to young English coaches. Look how much money has been invested in St. George’s Park as well.
I doubt if Germany would ever appoint a non German to be their National team Manager.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Howe wasn’t tentatively approached but said not for him right now?

I would be amazed if he was not approached, I can understand him turning it down, obviously we can only guess at
his reasoning, personally I think that he wants to see how far he can take Newcastle.

He wasn't approached for the job so he didn't have the option of turning it down.

Remember that the FA have only appointed Tuchel for eighteen months, and he was out of work.

Eddie Howe renewed his Newcastle contract last year and it runs until summer 2027 which would mean an argument with them and the FA having to pay significant compensation. I don't think Howe is out of the picture, but would be much easier to appoint in 2026 because if Newcastle objected at that stage, he could inform them that he wouldn't be renewing in a year's time which would basically force them to give in.

Doesn’t really bother me Ian but that poor bugger ( Dyche) has probably been given about £8 million in compensation

I went to that game. We lost 4–1 I think with Bob Latchford scoring at least one. I think it was Alex Macgregor that scored out goal, a volley that went through the Everton keeper’s legs.

Alex Macgregor was my favourite Shots player. He was an absolute class act, old fashioned winger and a joy to watch

How do you know that for sure? It would be in both parties’ interest to keep even the most casual conversation quiet in case it be viewed as tapping up. I’m not saying that definitely happened, just that it’s how football works sometimes. Look how quickly some managers come in!

Ian chandler wasn't great was he  , he didn't actually move around the pitch like a footballer either, was well out of his depth.

I think we were the only southern based side he ever played for as well.

The Fa want 25% of coaches to be bame fair enough . How about trying to get 10 managers in the Premier lge to start with .
