Saturday vs Solihull

Post by Alex »

Looks like the max temperature for Aldershot during the next few days is only going to be 2/3 degrees, and very cold at night!

I know the covers have been down but a good chance the game will be frozen off, surely?

Early forecast is for it to warm up a bit by Tuesday so I’d expect the Braintree fixture to be on.

The covers went on yesterday morning when there was zero frost in the ground, the pitch was soft and 100% playable at the time the covers went down so they went on at exactly the right time.

The Frost covers fully protect to minus 4 degrees and the lowest temperatures forecast (Met Office) for Aldershot are minus 3 tonight and only minus 1 degree Friday night and with daytime temperatures being as you say above freezing there is very little chance of there being any frost in the ground between now and Saturday. Frost covers not only protect from frost but also absorb heat during the day which then goes into the ground which is also highly beneficial in keeping the ground soft and playable.

Fog could be an issue for the Braintree game looking at the medium term forecast

You might want to refresh your weather apps Richard, ive seen two separate forecasts, and both are saying -6 tonight & and -5 tomorrow night.

According to the met office website for Aldershot the lowest temperature between now and Saturday is -3°c which will feel like -5°c

Well I have just re checked the forecasts as listed below:
Met Office
Metacheck
Accuweather
Sky
BBC

Not one of them has anything below -3 other than one which has just one hour on Friday night at -4 so I don't know what weather forecaster you are using but they seem to be out on their own with your suggestions of lower temperatures.

Perhaps as aldershot-jg included in his post there are "Feels like figures" which are often lower maybe you are inadvertently looking at those

Alex do you ever have anything positive to say, the guys work their nuts off to get the games played and all you do is come on here with comments like that.

Really surprised that we are staging yet another Reading U/21s match on Jan 17th given the run of home games we've got coming up and how the pitch has been looking recently ! hope there's money in the budget for the necessary pitch repairs in the summer !!
and Richard Walden puts the Shots 1-0 up against Man Utd

It's not fair just to have a go at Alex . Go on any shots fb page and give a gust of wind or 2 drops of rain and every week there will be someone proclaiming will the game be on . I think Alex has asked a fair question considering how late we were told the covers went down last week .

I don't know what class of weather gage serves Aldershot, but as most of the Met offices temperature gages in the UK are termed "junk class" - i.e. a potential inaccuracy swing of between 2 to 5 degrees - I wouldn't swear by it.

Mind you, probably also explains those silly burning red UK weather charts of dangerously hot temperatures, that we've NOT been having in recent years...
