Don't understand why we signed him in the first place, I agree with Alex not much chance of him being a number one for us, so unless he wants to be on the bench he would be better off somewhere else. I think he just too small for a keeper in the National League.

Pat in hindsight should have stayed at Farnham. Aldershot arn’t exactly coming up smelling of roses over the way they’ve treated the lad either, and now offloading him to Sholing and probably getting him back only again to sit on the bench.

Am I missing something here as I as though Sholing are playing at a higher level than Farnham so that can only be good for his development.

The club haven't treated him badly either.

. Perhaps in a two or three years time he may be back at Farnham passing Aldershot on there way up through the leagues.

So, when he played for Farnham all the oppo defenders were less than 6 foot tall ? and were very nice guys, i very much doubt it

Every player at national league level has a major deficiency; otherwise they wouldnt be here.
For an outfielder it might be finishing, it might be speed, it might be stamina
If the rest of Pat's game is above the level, it may just be that his height is the limitation that makes NL exactly the RIGHT level for him.

With the greatest respect Northcampshot, I don’t know if you have seen him play at Farnham, but if you haven’t you will not perhaps seen his ability. He reads the game very well and despite his diminutive size (even though it was claimed he was 6ft once) he has the hallmarks of a quality keeper. Height is a definite advantage for a keeper, but also the ability to get down low fast is as well.

Yep fair point Tim. I did see him play for us against Bashley not that he had much to do. But if you look at the size of good keepers at NL level most of them are a decent height.

Now he's at Step 3 and I bet he'll impress at Sholing. He will be an absolute asset to us and I sincerely hope he steps up to be our No.2 keeper very soon.

Agreed - and what is the point of being a 6ft 5in keeper if you never come for crosses or corners and stay rooted to the goal line? I’ve watched Pat playing for Farnham enough times to know he is a cracking keeper and that, as Chimpster says, height is not an issue - his record proves that.
And, as for why we signed him? From what I remember he signed when Jordi was stalling over his new contract.

"Never" is perhaps a bit too definite but "Not in the foreseeable future" I would certainly agree with, he has a fair way to go yet in gaining experience and seeing what standard he can get to which I assume is your thinking.

If your only referring to while Marcus is with us then your right, my hesitation over your use of the word "Never" was based on sometime in the long term future when maybe Marcus will have moved on and Pat has potentially developed as a keeper.
