I`m glad that Mr Widdrington hit out at the minority of fans who seem to enjoy persistant personal attacks on players and himself who are doing their best to turn round recent dip in form.Tommy claims that he is thick skinned but his comments say otherwise and this is a good characteristic, he cares.

And of course we fans must play an important part and get fully behind the Shots if we want to see more fighting performances like on Saturday.

Most of what I have read on here and seen on a match day is just fans opinions and views, nothing offensive or serious.

The club isn’t in a worse league position than last season because of lack of support.
In fact, the attendance average is @ 2,500.
The reason we are lower is because key players have not been adequately replaced.
That is definitely not down to the supporters.
I wish the club the very best but it’s not due to complete bad luck or lack of support in its recent drop in fortune.

A good, and probably unexpected win yesterday.

Dad was really excited by the result, and offered to take me out for dinner after the game. I gently turned him down, saying that I was already ‘booked’ for an evening somewhere in the city.

I guess given the relative before kick-off league positions, alongside the prevailing weather conditions, I certainly expected Altrincham to fully expose our defensive frailties in the first half, going into the break a few goals to the good.

With Altrincham attacking the East Bank end, Storm Bert assisted, I guess it was inevitable that our opposition had plenty of the ball in the first twenty minutes or so, but even with our very poor midfield set up, I think Dewhurst only had to make one pretty simple save during the early exchanges. And to be honest our two beautifully taken goals came from nowhere, resulting in a half-time score that probably flattered us. That said, Altrincham were very poor, disappointing and surprisingly toothless.

The substitutions in the second half, due to a series of in-play circumstances and no doubt management design, delivered a Shots midfield of pace and threat. Good to watch and certainly very welcome.

As for Theo, who was moved to the back in the second half, doing a good job. Well boys, I wouldn’t get too excited. Our best defender by far, was Bert. And I could have made the defensive mistake that gifted Altrincham an away goal. Furthermore, with Bert by my side, the only weakness in the defensive set up would have been the inevitable and disastrous impact on my hair, an event played out just a few hours before I had to look my best.

A welcome three points.

My footnote, and closing observation directed towards Tommy, ‘please keep the pace in midfield’. (I know you won’t!).

Their goalkeeper Ethan Ross seemed to shy away from goalkicks in the second half to avoid the "You're sh*t ahhh" chants from the East Bank

Some unfair chants aimed at him yesterday. It’s not always just ‘banter’

Thought he was a decent keeper during his brief loan spell with us

I've never known a single goalkeeper of any stripe in the history of professional football ever being put off by the cliched "You're sh*t ahhh" chant.

Re Ethan Ross; he joined us on loan from Stockport County in March ‘22. He was a competent ‘keeper for us. In April in the game here against Eastleigh he suffered a bad injury when he came out to collect a high ball but our centre half, Giles Phillips, collided with him whilst Ross was jumping to collect the ball. He fell awkwardly onto his shoulder area and required treatment for over twenty minutes with his head in a neck brace before being carried off.

Now, the reason why I’ve mentioned that is that he came back for the home fixture against Notts County which we won 3-1 (with a cracking goal from our QPR loanee, Sinclair Armstrong). I watched this game from the slab and when the final whistle blew (the result that secured our place in the NL) I looked across at him just as he did a couple of ‘punching the air’ motions in what I will like to think was the joy of helping us avoid relegation. It could of course be the fact that he got through the game ok. He then went across to some people (possibly family) in the North Stand and had a long group hug. I’ll always be appreciative for his short stay with us.

There’s quite a few people who stand in the Eastbank who need to grow up, and concentrate more on backing their own players.
