A lot of chat about todays game being a must win

Surely some credit due to the players for delivering the goods?

James Henry worth a lot of points to us, and unfashionable to say but Barrett the same?

Dislcaimer - not at the game today and don’t want to get Jim Royles wrath for not attending 👍🏻
Agree about Barrett, he had a great game today, where would we be without Henry though?
:D In my humble opinion..Just saying

Something else I wanted to add (it wouldn't be Shotsweb without some moaning...) is I couldn't understand why the Shots took short corners every time. Surely if ever there was a time to whip it into the box it would be in conditions like we had at The Rec today with the heavy downpour and high winds.

A few good performances today, especially Henry, Akpan and Menayese. We really took control of the game in the second half due to Tetek coming into midfield and Theo moving to the back. Fortunately Altrincham were the worst team I have seen this season so there was little risk putting him in the back three. With a better finisher up top we would have won by a few more today.

Didn't see any short corners

Maybe I missed them because of the time difference

Totally agree on this one.

Good result today and I think Alty were second best for most of the game. Their consolation goal was woeful from our POV and it’s good it didn’t spur them on to try and get something out of the game, as they really didn’t deserve it.

Today short corners make more sense when you look at the height comparison between the two teams. Altrincham certainly had the advantage in the height department. Sometimes it’s better to draw them out and create that room between defence and keeper to attack.

Alty we're the better team for the first 25 minutes, but for all their pretty play through the midfield they had nothing to offer up front. Once we got in front our work rate increased, allowing us to dominate and from there we pretty much controlled things. Our pressing was excellent and Tetek's introduction made a big difference, even though he was clearly struggling after getting smashed in the sweetbreads. Theo looked happier at the back with the game in front of him, although he got caught badly for the consolation goal. Stars of the show were Rollin (my MOTM), Scott, Akpan, R.Jones and Henry.

First half Alty controlled the midfield but we're wasteful in possession and created very little, on the contrary we looked dangerous with the minimal possession we did have. 1st goal, good cross and finish, about 5 mins earlier Akpan put in a similar cross and Barham tried to take a touch and the chance had gone. Henry with a bit more experie ce took it first time and paid dividends, and sheer persistence and another strong finish got his 2nd.

Theo looked far better at CB than he did in midfield first half, and Tetek added quality in the middle. He does struggle in and around the 18 yard box though where his decision making let's him down. We looked better 2nd half though.

Also thought Olly Scott had a good game in defence despite some rough treatment from Alty. We certainly look better without Maghoma, no doubt he will be straight back in next week though.

Well done Shots, good hard working win in tough conditions.

A win at last, we did need that. Tough conditions out there today too.

Role reversal from the Wealdstone debacle, this time it was us that wanted it more. Well done to all those involved today. You can’t win every game but the players’ attitude and effort should never ever fall below what they showed today.

A good win today - I feared the worst at the start they were playing us off the park and we were very wasteful with the ball.

We were slightly lucky with the 2nd goal as I am sure it struck Henry’s arm but for his age to run from his own half and finish - what a player!

Tetek came on and kept breaking up play and rbf I thought we defended decent most of the game.

Rollin, akpan, Henry l, Hargreaves did well and though Tetek and frosty came off the bench to help us - for me highlighted we are much better with Tetek and Hargreaves in the middle.

Again it feels like now fa cup is gone they look more together and focused and hopefully we can put a run together!

Akpan is really growing into his role now. Maybe should have scored as well?

I thought we were good today and fully deserved the win. What we lack in quality was made up by the effort and desire.

Nice win. Good to take our early chances and possibly could have had a penalty. Unbeaten in 2!

The problem is that we always seem to take short corners whatever the conditions and few if any result in something meaningful. Apart from taking the ball up to the corner flag and try and keep it there for 5 x minutes, there are few other things in the modern game I get frustrated about like a short corner.

Take a few long ones now and again and on a stormy and windy day like today, those conditions make things a lot more difficult to defend.

Great result today. A much needed win after some poor performances in recent weeks.

I sincerely hope we never see Maghoma in a Shots shirt again as I am sure it is no coincidence we looked much better without him.

Well done, Shots.
