My first ever company car - 1.1 L 3dr Estate

Horrible Beige with dark brown plastic seats and a roof lining that only went back as far as the back seat not over the load area. Sound proofing of external noise was achieved by turning the radio up. :lol:

Didnt matter what it was though as just really proud to have a company car at the time.
The old saying goes "You can please some of the people some of the time, but you will never please all the people all the time." In fact sometimes it seems impossible to even please some of the people any of the time

L,GL or Ghia?

Mark 2. My friend’s wife used to call it “Heinz” as it was tomato soup coloured! 😆

Fords up until that time had the “Ford” name on the bonnet in individual letters. I was disappointed that this had been discontinued on the Mark 2!

Think that beige colour was called “Coral” by the way!

Not sure about the Beige colour as I never ordered it, the company just gave it to me from their existing fleet.

Just googling the colour I can say it looked the same as this 1980 example which in the details calls it Cordoba

This thread is rapidly turning sad! 😆😆😆😆

I worked for Ford for a short time in the late 1970s in a career that probably thankfully was short lived! I did retain a very limited connection with the Motor trade until about 25 x years ago.

I did learn during this time that the major vehicle paint manufacturers only had a limited range of colours they could produce (and this is possibly still the case) with many cars having essentially the same colour scheme. It was left it to the manufacturer to give the paint scheme an exotic name to give it some individuality.

I still drown out rogue noises by turning the radio up :lol:

Mk 1 Ford Escort in British Racing Green!! Leaked like a sieve in the rain! Can even remember the registration - RDU 615H.

Handy tip - bet most of us can remember registration numbers from our old cars - I use them as passwords on the web! Will always remember them and a mixture of letters and numbers! :D

My first car was a mark 1 Escort. Dog dirt brown, with the extra pedal to get water onto windscreen :lol: Only lasted a year until at mot time found out it had a hole in the floor, and the seatbelt wasn’t actually secured to anything solid! Then got another rust bucket, a Lancia Beta. That was a lovely car to drive….

Passed my driving test in the same year England won the World Cup, having had no driving lessons, just borrowed a mates Morris for a spin around the surrounding military roads.
Paid 3 weeks wages (£25) for a dilapidated Morris Minor.
