100 % agree RichardRichard Petty wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 11:25 amIf your referring to players and coaching staff probably a sensible decision for them to keep their heads down for a while. It avoids them getting into unpleasant spats with supporters.WestWayShots wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 11:21 am Radio silence from the usual suspects on social media after a defeat.

I don't think you have this quite right, Steve. As you say, shirt pulling is not an explicit offence in the laws of the game. That being so, a "sustained" shirt pull is not an explicit offence either. Simple as that. So your first paragraph doesn't hold up. You cannot blame the laws for introducing subjectivity. Subjectivity is part and parcel of the game, which is exactly the fatal flaw with the whole idea of VAR. It's intended to get decisions objectively right but that's impossible in a subjective domain like refereeing a football match.SteveyAsp wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 3:40 am Pulling a shirt in itself isn’t an offence…It has to be a ‘sustained’ pull.
Unfortunately this is where The Laws Of Game cause problems….What’s a sustained shirt pull? How long are you allowed to pull the shirt for? It brings in subjectivity.
How many times do you see a shirts being almost pulled off players backs at corners?
There was an obvious pull on an Aston Villa players shirt last night and nothing was given.
A referee wishing to penalise shirt pulling has two options. He or she can interpret it as holding and therefore a foul. Or it can be interpreted as seeking to gain an unfair advantage (unsporting behaviour).
I think yesterday's ref had the penalty decision spot on. (Apologies for the pun.)

A guy I’d play casual kickarounds with would forever be berating us for not shirt pulling. “Grab some skin” was his catchphrase.
Weird.

It’s as much a foul as tripping someone simple as that
Re: Aldershot Town 0-2 Wealdstone - Saturday 9th November 2024 (Match Day Thread)
There was a time when you held or pulled a shirt it was penalised but not now….There’s worse shirt pulling that goes on in a penalty box that goes unpunished and most of the time officials bottle it by giving the foul to the offensive side.Old Bob wrote:I don't think you have this quite right, Steve. There wasn’t enough in that yesterday for the player to go down without taking a dive.
As I said on Twitter yesterday Maghoma gave the officials a decision to make….It’s all about consistency but there isn’t any on shirt pulling or holding.

I don’t agree….A trip is a trip but pulling a shirt/holding has much more subjectivity to it.Peter macdonald wrote:It’s as much a foul as tripping someone simple as that

You watch any game and there’ll be shirt pulling and holding at every corner that goes unpunished….That’s my issue as to there won’t be any consistency to what’s given and what isn’t.

I agree and it should be punished and until then they’ll continue doing it

Unfortunately, that will still result in us being relegated barring the AGM cup.Northcampshot wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 2:31 pm What a shambles, TW clueless and out of his depth, we just have to hope there are 3 worse teams than us.

Just seen the highlights and don't think we can complain about any of the 3 major decisions.

You can engineer a trip by deliberately catching someone's leg with your foot while you are moving, and then falling over. So I would argue that even a trip is subjective.
