On the subject of poppies, I was picking the poppy badge I would wear and found the Shots one that I bought in the shop a couple of years ago.

Then I noticed that it’s not right! The leaf is facing completely the wrong way!

It should be at 11 o’clock, but is actually at 1 o’clock, so I won’t be wearing it again!

This would be bad enough, but is made worse by the fact it was sold by the club representing an army town!!

Urban myth that the leaf should point to 11 o’clock. From the RBL website - "There is no right or wrong way to wear a poppy. It is a matter of personal choice whether an individual chooses to wear a poppy and also how they choose to wear it.”

As Turnkey has posted it is a myth that the leaf should be at the 11 O'clock position as confirmed here https://www.theukrules.co.uk/rules/lega ... etiquette/

In fact if you scroll down you will see the picture of the British Legion poppy with the leaf at the 1 O'clock position.
The old saying goes "You can please some of the people some of the time, but you will never please all the people all the time." In fact sometimes it seems impossible to even please some of the people any of the time

Up until six years ago I sold poppies for the RBL, and it was only just then that someone who I sold one to mentioned it, I'd never heard of it before then. It is a nice idea and usually I try and maintain it but, especially with the design of the newer poppies, it's hard to maintain. I wear two metal poppies on my work uniform but these just spin around so it's not practical there either.

I'm typing this on the train to my annual visit to Westminster Abbey to see the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and then onwards to lay a cross and poppy at the Bomber Command memorial in honour of my great Uncle.

Thank you for your explanation. Very much appreciated, and I stand corrected.
