Re: Aldershot Town 0-2 Wealdstone - Saturday 9th November 2024 (Match Day Thread)
Think that's 5 blanks in last 6 home games
8 points from 11
No shots on target last 2 games
Selection of Maghoma a mystery
Takes off Barham for Ghandour
Dropping Dewhurst for JVS
Continues to pick his son
Suspect TW wants out
However every manager struggles under Azeem so must ask how are his 3 targets going?

Remembrance service as impeccable as ever.
Match was a horror show from start to finish. Maghoma, Theo and Barrett consistently gave the ball away in the first half and the penalty was a shambles. Felt for Dewhurst who seemed horrified and annoyed by what was going on in front of him.
R Jones - not sure wing back is his position. The sendings offs were probably right if a little harsh. For Ellison’s, a Wealdstone player was quick to comfort him as he couldn’t really move his hand but by the letter of the law probably a booking?
A Jones (who looks a shadow of the player we saw last season) just got caught out by a canny bit of play by their no. 3. The opposition chap knew exactly what he was doing as highlighted by the Lazarus-style recovery and Ronaldo-esque smirk. Aaron should be too experienced to fall for this.
We never looked like scoring and completely devoid of attacking ideas in the second half. We couldn’t even pass 5 yards to each other (best midfielder in the league being the main culprit).

Well today’s performance was then in line with what many had been predicting and it was a shocker. The Referee and the Linesman on the South Stand side didn’t help, but they are minor factors and we were truly awful and deserved the big nothing we got.
Going back to an earlier post I asked about bothering to go if we are predicting a rubbish performance which will end in defeat before a ball is even kicked? I still say going into a game, some seem to long for the self fulfilling prophecy of doom, and today, yep, they got it.
However, depending on whether you believe the gate today (I find that hard to believe) about 3000 Shots fans did bother Even is the crowd figure was inflated, probably about 75% of the attendance were Shots fans, and that, perhaps is a glimmer of hope. I still stand by the view that in expressing negativity before a game and it’s outcome is not a good thing. Afterwards when the results are in, is a different story.

I agree that the officials cannot be blamed for our teams dire performance, but the referee & the linesman on the south side have to be the worse I have seen in a long while, and boy, haven’t we had some poor ones.Gone West wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 2:29 pmThe referee is absolutely not in any way responsible for that utter horror show!Weybourne Shot wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 2:26 pm Very angry scenes here now and rightly so with this performance .... please don't blame the referee for what we have seen this afternoon
The penalty was a poor one to give, 2 players challenging for the ball & their player went down like he had been shot. As for the 2 sending offs, the game has gone if they were yellow card offences.
Having said that, we deserved nothing from the game. Wealdstone to their credit, worked their socks off & once they sniffed blood there was only going to be one team to win it.
Something has gone badly wrong since the back end of last season. That’s when doubts started to set in for me, when we were badly in need of a midfielder to come in on loan,TW for some reason ignored it & we went on a poor run & missed out on the play offs.
Key players moved on in the summer, we were told before the season started that a player has been brought in that was better goal scorer than Tolaj , has he been locked away in a cupboard or something, because we haven’t seen him on the pitch.
What really gets my goat more than anything is seeing teams like Wealdstone look more fitter, stronger & cleverer than us. For the first time in a very long while, I do fear that this will be the season where our luck runs out. That is something that I think our fans will struggle to accept.
In my humble opinion..Just saying

‘Mr unfit’ being Barrett? If you are going to be a NL footballer in his position you have to be decent and have an impact on most games. Josh has been poor more than he’s been good. The free kick on the edge of the box didn’t even test the sub keeper!lowerbourneshot wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 6:12 pmSorry Tim I called it last night 2 minutes out on the goal ,but no shots on target again Mr unfit didn't even make 60 mins . People have previously mentioned the likes of McNulty and Rhead but you can get away with being that size as a CB or CF.

Wealdstone may have dressed like Brazil but they certainly didn’t play like them. Still had too much for us.

That Barrett free kick… The goal was gaping open for a left foot finish into the top corner the other side. Perfectly set for Jones really…

The penalty wasn’t particularly harsh in my view. You’re right in that it was two players challenging for the ball but Reid got in front of Maghoma who then thought it was a good idea to grab a handful of his shirt instead of just staying goal side and shepherding him strongly but fairly across the edge of the box away from goal. Maghoma was at fault, not the officials. If that had happened at the other end we would all have rightly been screaming for a penalty.Graham Stovold wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 6:16 pmI agree that the officials cannot be blamed for our teams dire performance, but the referee & the linesman on the south side have to be the worse I have seen in a long while, and boy, haven’t we had some poor ones.Gone West wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 2:29 pmThe referee is absolutely not in any way responsible for that utter horror show!Weybourne Shot wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 2:26 pm Very angry scenes here now and rightly so with this performance .... please don't blame the referee for what we have seen this afternoon

I did think both second yellows were more contentious. I guess the letter of the law means the referee wasn’t wrong as such but on another day with another referee both Ellison and Jones, particularly the former, may have got away with it.
It just seems that to blame the officials for the complete ineptitude on show today is clutching at straws to say the very least.

“The job is for 40 hours a week, is that ok?”
“Ooh, sorry. I get tired after about 30 hours a week and have to miss the rest of the week.”
“Thanks for coming in, we’ll let you know”.
As a professional footballer if you can’t do 90 minutes once or twice a week then find another job!
